Up Shift Light?

Up Shift Light?
Tonight I was sitting in the 93 and the sun was hitting the dashboard and I saw right below the 1 to 4 light that there is an up arrow with the word shift below it. Is this supposed to light up when the car thinks you should shift and my bulb is out or did it never work from the get go?

In my 87, if I'm in Drive but not OD yet.. then sometimes the light comes on to let me know I need to upshift for better economy. I think its a nice feature to have. :cheers:

My guess it's a feature enabled on automatic Vettes and disabled on manual (stick) Vettes.
GM kept a common dash for cost purposes but disabled the appropriate feature depending on the car.

I have a 4+3 manual in my 86 and mine works, although only the arrow and the "upshift" lights up. The "for better fuel economy" worked a couple of times when the car was new, but hasn't lit up in 15 years.
