On the drive in this morning, the Bose decided to take a break. Sound is there, but faint. Occasionally, it would jump to normal freq. Must be some kind of short. But where??
Been planning on replacing this junk with something else anyway. Does anyone have suggestions on a "good fit" replacement for C4's?
Last week I was looking at changing out my Bose system for a Kenwood dvd/mp3 player and found out that first of all the whole system would have to go. Can't just change out the head unit.
The cost to but in a decent system would start out at around $2000. I decided to get an adapter to run a 3rd party amp and hook up a single 10" JBL Sub in a custom box. Sounds pretty good and saved myself about a $1200. Don't think this situation helps you out if your Bose took a dump but it does let you know what price range you might be starting at.
from what you describe i'd first check the speaker amps located next to each speaker. there have been many posts in the past regarding diagnosing and repairing amps.
i replaced my system with decent speakers, no sub, no exernal amp, and a so-so head unit with MP3 play capability. ran me less than $500 but it sounds a helluva lot better than the stock setup.
Thanks all for the advice. Tonight, I'll check out the amps and the CDM. The "Best Buy" guy started sweat'in when I told him I wanted to switch out the Bose for something else. But, after reading all the post from Audio/Electrionics, I think I'll pay a visit to a "real" audio store. :)
If you have a convertible with speed volume increase check the lever behind the volume button and make sure it is either up or down- up(clockwise) is louder.

IMHO, don't discount the "unreal" audio stores if you are going to do the installing. i got my setup at circuit city and they actually gave me a "self install discount" of i think $30 (it's been a while so i don't remember the exact $$). they basically took out the cost of their "free" installation! the downside is that if you are after top-end stuff, they will probably not have it...
