Default 406CID, engine builder says Need new Computer???

Well, the engine builder says that the stock ECM wont handle it, but I have a TPI unit from an 86 transam and I have the stock ECM with it. WOuld it work? And then I can wait till I get everything running for a while and wait for the wallet to swell up again and shell out some more dough on a Holley 950 commander Im guessing 600 for that, and maybe 200-300 for the wiring harness? Is that neccessary or could I use the TPI's wire harness?

I upgraded my 1985 ECM to the 1986 "165" ECM and it is plenty. I have no idea why he would say the 165 is inadequate.

Now he may want to debate MAS opposed to Speed Density!

He probably said that because he doesn't know how to tune a 165. Your MAF restrictions will pose a much bigger problem than the computer, but skidownit will have something to say about that. :D

I hope he responds. :yesnod: PLus Since I will be throwing Turbos on it in the winter, and I dont want to build the engine twice, it'll be a 8.5 to 1 compression built engine. I would like to know what kind of power that would make with the restriction of the TPI unit, maybe some porting could help it out and bring the power back.

If ski_dwn_it doesn't reply, he might not see the post. Do a searh and email him. I know he would help you out. Both Corkvette and Ski are running 406s with stock ecm.

You will need a custom chip :yesnod:
