Performance change??? youve got to be kidding. I've only once been able to notice a performance change with anything Ive done.
I didnt get an X-pipe, but I did get a cross-over pipe added cuz I thought it would help with resonance. It seems like it did... unless, my mufflers got quieter by themselves(which sometimes happens) or I got used to it. :smash:

Re: X-pipe question........ (Beautiful Beast)
For what it is worth, I have the Magnaflows on mine and I love them. The look cool and sound great. I do not have an x-pipe, but the LT-4 has a factory h-pipe and I have removed the resonator.
Mcshagger what do you think of your Magnaflows? I'm looking at a pair of them as well.
Thanks!
I like them quite abit... I actually researched them all and looked for LT1s with various exhuast set ups. I ended up choosing Magnaflow mufflers cuz I liked the sound the best. One thing though... And this has its trade offs... I sometimes wish they were louder... But if they were louder, I think it would be too loud for daily driving.
This is how I categorized everything...
B&B - Loud. NASCARish... It didnt sound very fluid or have any low growl that I was loking for.
Flowmaster - good drag sound with typical V8 rumble. Kinda sounds like a truck or a mustang.
Corsa - Quality snap and pop exhuast sound. Kinda like a Harley. Not waht I was looking for.
Borla - Great race car sound. Low growl that has quality and fluid sound. Almost went with Borla.
Magnaflow- Awesome racecar sound. Excellent low growl that is very fluid. It was hard to choose by sound between the Borla and the Magnaflow. Performance and looks swayed my choice to Magnaflow.

LT4-CE those Magnaflows look great!
Thanks!! Took me a while to decide on these vs. Flowmaster (which I have run an a number of other cars) and the Corsas. Much like the other post, I just thought the Magnaflows sounded and looked great.
B&B - Loud. NASCARish... It didnt sound very fluid or have any low growl that I was loking for.
Well... I will have to differ with you on this one. Aside from the B&B being the best looking exhaust (imho), I think it is the best sounding exhaust as well. I have yet to hear another C4 that sounds quite like mine (overall sound, idle throatiness, low-growl, WOT) though I have heard plenty that are louder.
I am using 1.75" TPIS longtubes, no cats, and a Dr Gas X-Pipe in place of the resonator. The entire exhaust is 3" from the collectors on back. I get more compliments on my exhaust sound than anything, and mostly from C5 owners.
Edit: I forgot to mention that I did my X-Pipe when I did the heads/cam so am not really sure if it made a performance difference. My guess would be that it couldn't hurt. :)
Well I had flowmaster 40 series mufflers on an otherwise stock exhaust. They did resonate to an extent. Later when I installed my headers I also had the center resonator removed and an x-pipe installed. Low and behold the resonance is worse.
Now it could be that the x-pipe is making it somewhat quieter and the headers just made it that much worse but I doubt it.
For an X pipe to be effective for performance it must be pretty close to the engine. As such the only good place to put it is right where the resonator is from the factory. This means that you are taking off a factory designed piece specifically designed to reduce resonance. I can't see that doing any good go quiet anything down!
I have no doubt that the headers made it louder, that's just a proven fact. What I'm not clear on is if the x-pipe helped with resonance or hurt. I honestly believe that it hurt. If anybody has ever looked at the resonator it is just another muffler. So I removed a muffler and put in straight pipes. That simply can't help with the resonance issue.
I would go with an x-pipe or some sort of cross-over tube. With a true dual exhaust you have 4 cylinders poping out of each pipe, when you add a crossover you get a nice deep smooth woosh note.I guess its a matter of preferance, but to many redneck trucks run duals with no x-pipe and I don't want to sound like that. :D
Just so you know the LT1 exhaust is very efficient. Any reduction in back pressure will give you less low end power, and more high end power. That's just how these exhausts are. The L98 suffers from a restrictive exhaust, and respond well to exhaust mods.
I think that an X-pipe may reduce your cabin resonance a bit from the muffler elims, although you I'm sure you don't have much of a problem because of your G92.
I've never seen a pre-fabbed X-pipe for an LT1 'vette. You'd have to have one custom made, and for the price you're talking, I think adding more air to the engine would be a better solution for more power, to match the output of your muffler elims.
I've got the exact same exhaust as Mike except I've got 1-3/4" Watson long tubes with 3" collectors. Other than that I'm 3" stainless all the way to the B&B mufflers. When I added the Dr Gas X-pipe the exhaust pitch went up. Kinda like an Indy car. Still has the resonance but the pitch is now higher.
I love the sound...if it resonates you just need to drive it harder! :D
This thread got me thinking. TPIS headers come with a 3" Y pipe so you can direct bolt it on to the factory cat on the L98s. Would it be essentially a X pipe if you Y'ed it right off the TPIS Y pipe back into the factory LT1 dual exhaust?
I hear ya Superlund! Mine only resonates if I'm under 2k and I'm never there. :) I would think an auto would have a lot more problems with resonation than a manual. To be honest, I don't even notice it anymore.
I've heard Dr. Gas is the only true pre-fab x-pipe. I've seen the Magnaflow-x, it's covered by suppport braces. Dr Gas looks like the real deal !
