Hey I am once again considering lowering my car with the 2 kits from Ecklers.
(WEDGES and LONG BOLTS)
How hard is the back to do (Z51 EQUIPPED)
Can I just tdo the back? Or would that be OHSOSTUPID looking?
I know the front involves cutting rubber off of something..? Is it permanent and what has to be taken off to get to it?
How much lower will the front be?
Will the tires rub the fenders? Front and Rear?
Will lowering the rear add stress to the spring causing it to fail should I hit a pot hole? Remember, I have EL CHEAPO BRAND Shocks from PEPBOYs (which replaced my factory rebuildable Bilsteins :cry :reddevil ) So...lol Is it wise?
Anyone have pics of a a 1984-1990 vette the is lowered in the back but not the front, and one that was lowerd all over? I know DA HAWAIIAN PUNCH lowerd the mess out of his, but mine is a daily driver and I would have no undercarriage left...lol :seeya
I am no expert as I have not done this myself yet but my understanding the front is a PITA. You have to remove front spring and remove rubber wedge from it. Then bond the one in the kit to it. The instructions should tell you how to modify brackets to accomodate newer wedges. It only lowers 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch. Some people also modify the edge of spring cushions to bring it down some more. Rear is real easy. Jack up rear and replace bolts. You could probably just lower rear but try to keep the rear from being level with or lower than front. You have to have alignment done when finished. I am sure those who Have done this will have more details.
Yeah, I hope someone can help. The car looks weird, there is like 3-4 " between the rear tire and the fender, about 2 up front.
I looked at my rear spring and bolts today and my rear spring looks different than replacement springs. Mine is like 3.5 inches wide all the way across, and about 1.5" thick. Is this because of Z51, or a really HUGH JASS spring?
I did my front and back myself, if I were to do it agin I would only do the rear to level it out with the front. The front lowering takes some ride quality in (IMHO). Also I have noticd some rub marks on the front inner fender wells from dips or big bumps.
The rear is a 30-45 minute job so if then if you want to still do the front go at it.
But this is not and easy job, maybe 4-6 hours, FYI, the botttom of the tire [Uwhile jacked up][/U] must be at least 16 inches from the floor in order to get the "arced" spring out.
IF you do take the front out get the car aligned after you are done.
How much would a shop charge to do it? It would be up on a lift and all? Do the laighnment while there at it. i dont have the resources to get the fronts that far up!
I went out and looked at the car from the side and actually the Front and rear look about the same, both about 2-3" from the fenders.
I would like to have a prof do it because at least when the front end falls off I hyave someone to complain to...lol
