Default Remote Keyless (PKE) Problem...Again

My remote seems to be acting up again. I approached the passenger side first and it unlocked the door, but not the drivers. On a whim, I decided to test the alarm by opening the drivers door manually. The alarm sounded the horns and I shut the system off by using the key. All was well (I thought) until I attempted to lock the car. The remote did not lock the doors after moving away from it. I maually locked the car (cycled it a few times) to see if that would "clear" the problem. It did not. I tried to reset (activate) the PKE (worked the last time) without any luck. I also tried to reprogram the remote but it would not receognize it (PKE remained flashing). However, once I walked away it locked the car only (no horn) so I approached it again but it would not unlock the door(s). By now I was frustrated and figured it was somehow operator error. However, I did grab my spare remote and tried it. It worked perfectly every time! I now believe that their is something wrong with my spare (recently purchased new). I also thought about trying to remove the battery from the remote and see if it can be reprogramed. Otherwise, I hope my dealer will offer to replace it. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I removed and then placed the battery back in the remote. This allowed me to clear/erase the original memory (or lack thereof). I then programmed the remote. It works now.
