Stopped by the paint shop Thursday morning to get an update on my car. I walked in with video and still camera and was pointed in the direction of my car.
When I walked up to it, a guy came stopped what he was doing and came across the room to introduce himself, Chris, and ask me if I had any questions. I was just wondering how the job was going overall and he proceeded to walk me through everything he found.
He pointed out where putty was used and cracked rather easily, then had me pull on the his repair, putty out, fiberglass in, very strong. He also showed me where there was so much putty on the deck of the rear bumper that the slight depression was actually a raised mound. I could go on and on...Anyway, Chris seems to be excited about taking a break from all the collision repair on daily drivers to do something a little different.
I'm getting very anxious and trying to be patient at the same time.
Looks nice...was it in a wreck. Sure seems like alot of puddy!
Im going to be doing some puddy work on my dads old 67 Tbird in a few days. I know, puddy=SATAN, but im not going to be applying it 5lbs at a time. Just fixing the lower facia where it got wrapped around the bumper!\
I remember when mine looked like that. I couldn't wait for the paint to be applied! Congrats & be patient. BTW- What is it costing you for the whole job? Are you replacing the emblems as well?
Estimate is for $4800. That includes door jambs and the like for a color change. Settling on BMW's Titanium Silver Metallic with a blue pearl. All new emblems and I'm pricing out all the moldings now, OUCH!!
I'm now wondering how much it would be to remove the moldings and smooth.
Somebody asked if it was in an accident. Yes, prior to my owning it and over the past two years all the terrible body work started to show. Clear coat peeling, cracks resurfacing, and it was three different shades of red. It got to the point I was too disgusted to even wash it. But that is now gone and the anticipation now is similar to what I felt when the new engine was coming together.
