Don't know if anyone has seen this or gotten it. I haven't. If someone has, is it worth the $7?? http://www.corvetteweb.com/
This is what they say about it: The Corvette Nuts at Pro-Tech Enterprises recognized the need for a simple step by step "How To" manual for getting 100 more horse power from your C4 and C5 Corvette.
This information has been distilled from years of trial and error work by some of the best Vette mechanics in the industry. Don't try to re-invent the wheel, our manual will save you time , money and frustration.
Pro-Tech has been offering performance upgrade manuals and high performance technical advise to the Corvette community for almost ten years now.
We are confident that once you recieve the free manual (which normally retails for $25) you will revisit our site and become part of our Corvette family.
All we ask is $7 dollars to cover shipping, handling and some of our printing costs and we will forward you a copy of the manual.
Well, I said I'd update the thread once I got the "manual" and so here's the update:
A RIP-OFF TO BE PROUD OF!
The whole thing was thirteen pages long with eight of them having to do with the C4 and five covering the C5. IF anyone wants a copy, let me know and I'll scan it and email it to you in a PDF. But in a nutshell, according to Pro-Tech Enterprises, this is how you get another 100 HP out of your C4:
1) cut lid
2) K&N
3) remove MAF screens on L98
4) clean throttle body and plates with Gumout
5) throttle body air foil (damn! and I just gave mine away)
6) replace fuel filter
7) replace spark plug wires (as well as rotor and cap on L98)
8) replace spark plugs with Rapid Fires (quote: "If you have never wrestled with spark plugs before, don't worry. On a small block Chevy all the plugs are relatively easy to get to")
9) Sears DieHard battery
10) ADS or Hypertech power chip
11) 160 T-stat and reprogrommed fans
12) Dynomax mufflers and Y pipe (quote: "don't get talked into installing the Flowmasters or Borla systems")
Again, a direct quote from the manual: "So there you have it, folks. The above modifications will give the average L98 an increase of about 100 horsepower. It will blow the doors off any Mustang or made in Japan rice burner. With a total of about 350 horsepower on demand it will even give the king of the road ZR-1 a run for its money."
Damn, and to think I spent at least $2000 and some serious engine modifications to gain 100 horsepower. I knew the car felt slower when I removed that dead Die Hard battery and installed the Optima!
Just proves that nobody knows what they are talking about.
Just to be a thorn in their side, I emailed and asked for my money back. I'll see what happens. If they don't, I'll just do a charge back on the CC which means that their merchant account will most likely debit them $25...
John, I'm highly embarrassed to say I got that ##$!! thing too, just got it yesterday. What Vader and Nathan said is exactly right. The recommedations were ridiculous, and they don;t know what they're talking about. And another thing.....they even said "Don't get talked into headers" I laughed my butt off after reading the whole thing, and I threw it away :mad :cuss
Et tu, Neil? After reading a couple of your recent posts though, I thought the part you could really relate to was the "If you have never wrestled with spark plugs before, don't worry. On a small block Chevy all the plugs are relatively easy to get to" quote...
