Okay... so I bought this 1993 LT1 that I LOVE. I bought it a one of the larger Corvette dealerships in Ohio, and I have receipts that confirm that they did an oil change before selling me the car. The receipts do not specify Mobil 1, though. I plan onm taking the car on a roadtrip this weekend, but I will check the oil level first. If I need to add oil... what should I use? I'm not sure what's in the crank case right now and cannot get in to get the oil changed before Nov 1. Anyone got any suggestions? Can you mix standard and synthetic oils?
They better have used sythetic. Probably the Goodwrench synthetic, which is Mobil 1 I beleive. You shouldn;t need to add any oil. LT1's are notorious for not using much oil at all. Part of tnat is because sythetic resists burning anyhow, but also because the LT's are pretty tight egines with reagrd to oil consumption. Not so with some of the newer LS1's
Also, you should know that the owner manual specs 4.5 qts as fill w/ an oil change and that quantity will put the oil level in the middle of the cross hatch safe zone on the dipstick. 5 qts brings it to the top line on the dipstick. Some guys run 4.5 qts per the manual, some run 5qts per traditional chevy 350 cu in oil capacity. I run 5 qts. 4.5 qts seems to cause a slight extra lifter noise.
I checked with my son, who works at a dealership, and they put GM's synthetic (Mobil 1 in bulk) in LT1s/LT4s and all C5s. Yes if needed you can mix syn with dino oils, just when you get home replace oil and filter with know oil, Mobil 1. But I agree that you won't need any oil on your trip.
Just wondering, has anyone had an LT1 thats a bit leaky, like most older L98's? Everything i've read says there NILL on the oil usage, but REALISTICALLY, will this be the case for years to come? I know its somewhat off the topic, but close enough.

Yeah, maybe consumption, but LT1's sure as heck ain't modest about oil LEAKS! :nono:

They leak. Hell yeah, LT1's leak! Notorious spots include the intake, oil pan gasket, oil filter gasket, timing cover seal, water pump and Opti seals. I'm sure there are others.
My timing cover seal was replaced when they changed the opti in 2002. It's seeping again already. :mad Nothing much, jsut enough to let a light film of oil come down onto the front of the oil pan  I took it back for them to look at and they called it 'condensation'. My ****. They just didn't want to mess with it.
