Hey guys, while I was at the Homecoming parade the other night there was a kid there in a stock '00 Vette. I know its stock because its his moms car. Its an Automatic. He challenged me to a quick street race. I accepted and went for my pocket to get the keys. He immediatly came back with " you know what, I really dont have alot of gas" I told him id follow him to the gas station. he said he didnt have any money with him. I smiled and said :its ok, I understand" He said, Oh I aint afraid, Id smoke you, all you got is an old peice of ****. He drove around the track to his spot i nthe lineup for escorting a couple around the track. I made my way over after he left and saw that he had over a 1/2 tank.
If we had raced, how close would it have been? Oh yeah it was a vert.
I dont understand how it could, there all vettes, there all fast. Just some are faster than others...lol...I like the front of the C5, i like the engine look of the LS1. But ill take the Torquey L98, and rigid design of the C4 anyday!
True, but not everyone reads it the same way. One of my first posts on this forum was exactly the same title as yours, but my question was about teh forum not teh cars. I asked why there were more posts in C4 than C5 and it turned into the biggest pising match ever.
At Cruise In IV, Troy announced that the C4 sections still rule the forum(other thanOff Topic)
I will say that you moderators do a darn good job. I have been on the Classic Cobra forum (Shelby that is) recently, and man they are blasting each other a lot, always about who's car is the most original, etc. It seems that doesn't happen here as much, and I for one, appreciate it.

Re: C4 versus C5 (RED-85-Z51)
1. When he put down the age of your car you should have said "At least it's not my Mom's"
2. You would have been embarassed by the results if he had actually raced you. You would lose. Badly. Unless of course you've done serious modifications.
For the record, I raced an auto. C5 (dont know what year). This was my very first drag race in the C4. It went 13.5 at 105 MPH to my 14.2 at 99 MPH.
Now, funnier yet I saw another auto C5, with a 250 pound driver and passenger get smoked by a Dodge Omni GLH. This happened in about august of 2002 at dragway 42 in ohio.
The Dodge Omni GLH ran 13.8 seonds, beating the C5 which ran 14.0 seconds.
Obviously the Dodge Omni GLH had a different motor. 2.2L turbo utilizing lots of boost, and an intercooler fabricated out of a volkswagon radiator.
Nice setup.
BTW, I like how we dont have kill stories polluting the forum. but every once in awhile I feel some of us have some useful tips/mistakes that others here need to see while racing legally.
I'll bet that Omni was less modified than you think it is...
Every Omni GLH had a 2.2L engine, and about half were turbocharged after '84. The turbo models ran high 15's stock. And like most turbo motors, they are rather simple to modify.
The GLHS would run high 14's stock, and came with an intercooler and ran higher boost (12psi). Pulling another second off that time wouldn't be difficult without having to modify the internals.
Without run-flats he should have run mid 13s and, with your mods and 2.59 gears you would likely run high 13s, weather being not too bad.
I don't think I would have pushed the lad quite that hard (ah, impetuous youth...); when in a corner people sometimes react inappropriately, even if they built the corner. Often it's better to just depart with a knowing smile so he can save face and not be so "bold" next time.
Though I went out in the 1st round of eliminations at the Sat. Corvette Challenge I had the pleasure of dusting a C5 heads-up during time shots. :yesnod: ...(I let a C2 slip past me in an earlier time shot..:bb )
You just need a few more simple mods to get down into the range of those bone stock C5s. Check out my site (see sig. below) and that of Vic'89 for some results of L98 mods.
Both are great cars, but I think the Corvette Team has won more in the C5. That's ok the C6 should do better,C7,C8,C9 and so on.Everytime a new model is released it "SHOULD" be better than the last...........At least "overall".
Its pretty simple really, my stock 85 had 230 FWHP and the C-5 Vette has 350 FWHP, deduct 17% for the drivetrain and your 85 has @ 190RWHP and the Vette would have 290 RWHP.
