Default Front Spring on 1986

I just found out I need a front spring on my '86. I have two questions.

1. Any suggestions on where I can get a good deal on one? Ecklers was $450.

2. I am very familiar with conventional coil suspensions, and standard rear leaf suspensions. Do I need any special tools to change the front spring? Any tips

Tips?

Make sure you get it very high on the jack stands.

Getting the spring pressure off is easy, sliding it out with the car not high enough is the hard part!

You could buy a used one from a Salvage yard fairly inexpensively.....Call around...search Google

You'll need a ball joint puller also. Buy the spring from a vette salvage yard, like Vette2vette.

Some springs delaminate at 20,000 miles, some last forever... it's a crapshoot really.

:iagree: There is a tech tip in the tools section. Ball joint seperator is nice to have. Get it up at least this high.

Buy the spring from these guys:

I disagree with the junkyard theory. The job isn't tough, but I wouldn't want to do it more than necessary.

Like the other guys said, get it high enough in the air, make sure you have adequate room on each side, and use a ball joint fork to separate them from the knuckle. Not a particularly hard job, just take your time and you will be fine.

[edit] Oh yeah....just use a standard floor jack to remove the tension from the spring....no compressor needed.
