Default Opinions needed please.

I found a 85 white vette like mine for sale yesterday and its only $4500. The body was perfect and the interior is great but it needs a new windshield, the brake booster fixed(it comes with one it just needs to be installed) and a lower radiator hose , also the driver side door lock does not unlock with a key it just turns. It has 149,000 miles on it and it smokes when it started, he said its been sitting for a few months. I think its a good deal what do you guys think? Also the blinker switch is broken off , but has the replacement pieces.

Sounds like a money pit. You could easily sink another 5 grand into it. It would be better to take 10 thou and buy a nice 60,000 mile 1990. :)

what things are new? these are signs of neglect and who knows what else could go wrong. then again, if nothing else does go wrong it could be a good deal. it's hard to determine without seeing the car. mine had very low miles on it and i had to still replace alot of things.

Its best to find a vette in great shape and pay more! You will end up spending double or triple your original investment on a fixer upper! :nono:

:iagree: Sounds like a money pit indeed. I've done this myself (bought a 78 silver anniversary car that had been stored and had about 125,000 on it, and had problems from the get go). I dropped around 20K or so in that 7,500 dollar car that I bought thinking there wouldn't be that much to do. Neglect can take a serious toll on a vette, and sounds like that one really needs some TLC. I'd be worried about buying one that already has problems, but just my opinion. You might get lucky and just have to fix those things... then again... if not... $cha-ching$ and I see the money just a flying away.

:iagree: Theres a lot of good bargains to be found right now if you keep shopping. The smoking on startup could be a very serious and expensive problem to fix.
I'd pass......
