I suffered a broken windshield last week on my 87 Convertible. I was told by the place I buy my Corvette parts from that it most likely would require the 3 metal trim pieces to be replaced also as they are typically stuck in the sealant/adhesive and get distorted when removed since they are aluminum. When I dropped it off at the auto glass shop they told me the Chevrolet dealer delivered the trim but they returned it because it is not needed, only the weather stripping nneded to be replaced. Later that day the Auto Glass shop called to confirm the trim was stuck and would have to be replaced. I understand these 3 pieces of trim total about $500. My insurance sould cover the cost but I am wondering of those who have had C4 windshields replaced (especially the original windshield) di you also have to have the metal trim replaced as well?
Mine was replaced when the widshield was replaced. According to the speedy auto glass book the metal trim and weatherstrip are required when replacing windshield. The day after installation the glass shop phones me and tells me I owe them $800 (canadian) for the trim as my insurance company only covers the glass and weatherstrip. I politely told them where they could go. I phoned them back and told them to put my old moldings on and if they fu$$ed up my weatherstip in doing so they better be prepared to buy another one. A few days past without hearing from them when the phone rings. Its the manager and he tells me don't worry about it, it's our mistake, have a nice day. To top it off it turns out he is one of the sponsors for mens night at the golf course I belong to. So whos name gets drawn in the prize draw, mine and I win a can of glass cleaner and a set of wiper blades to go with my new windshield and NEW FREE $800 TRIM. :D
