I get absolutely amazed by the number of people who think eBay is the beat-all, end-all place to shop. I've made many purchases on their site, but don't ASSUME all deals there are the best. Case in point: a USED Corvette '84-89 fuse box panel screw just sold for $6.95 - a NEW one at Eckler's is $1.95! The same seller also sold a new fuse box cover with screw for $18.50 - new at Eckler's the same item is $8.95. Check it out with a search under "Corvette Fuse" and "completed items". I hate to see the naive bidders think eBay sellers are the best price around, and the sellers who tout their "Corvette connections" as authorities. Just my $.02! :mad
Re: Do your homework before buying on eBay!!!!! (vinnies87)
When I restored my '84 I purchased parts from dozens of different sellers and recorded everything (seller contact info, part quality, price, etc) and put it on a web site--check it out! http://www.c4restore.com

Yessir, I do like the c4restore.com site. When I get ready to do the interior of my '86 I will certainly use the info you have posted! Thanks -

In my experience, the key to getting good deals on ebay is to be knowledgable AND patient. You need to be able to recognize a bargain and quickly ****** it up, but other times you need to have the discipline to let someting go and trust that a similar item will show up again later.
Actually, I think that the deals that we offer eachother here at the forum are often better than ebay. One member just recently got more money for his FX3 shocks on ebay than he had originally asked for on the forum.

I have never purchased anything off e-bay, but know plenty of people who do. Like you said, if you do your homework there are some deals and some stinkers.

:seeya Naive Guy Sayin Hi
I bought a laptop on Ebay for scanning. I knew it needed power adapter but bought it anyway. Got the 15" laptop for $88 US thinking I could round up a power adapter for next to nothing. WRONG....It has some goofy plug that a very, very small amount of laptops use. Had to buy a new one for $80 US.
I'm still happy though as I got a nice laptop with 233 mhz,64 meg ram,6 gig hard drive, floppy,cd and a huge 15" screen for under $200 US.
Lesson learned :smash:
Re: Do your homework before buying on eBay!!!!! (RichD1986)
Rich, I almost made the same mistake with the fuse box panel and screw. I nearly paid $9.00 for the set. And of course, there is the $10.00 shipping and handling, or whatever figure they pull out of the sky.
Then I went to Zip and found the same part for way less.

A little OT, but I just won a Makita drill set for 50 bucks last nite, complete with 2 batteries and charger. I'm thinking it's a fair deal, then I get an e-mail this morning........the guy wants 21 bucks for shipping  We're "in negotiation" right now
Re: Do your homework before buying on eBay!!!!! (RichD1986)
There is a art in shopping on Ebay. Just like anywhere else eBay is packed with crooked sellers! But they also have some deals you will not find anywhere else! If you look at my signiture picture I bought my 3" LPE functional cowl induction hood already painted black with 9mm of clear coat for $650. I had to drive to New Jersey to get it because I didn't want to take a chance in shipping. I sold my original for $400 the next week on eBay to a guy in Florida who picked it up! I bought my ZR1 chrome 17 wheels (9.5 front 11 back) for $900 new, The list goes on. Ebay can be a great way to build your vette but you need to do your homework. Just like when you bought your vette you didn't jump on the first one you saw, you sat back and researched untill your ride came along! I love eBay it has helped me build my vette up to where it is today! :auto:
Re: Do your homework before buying on eBay!!!!! (RichD1986)
I was watching a pair of new door insert pannels that went for over $60 each on ebay. You can buy them new for $49 in the big catalogs. As said before, if you are careful and patient, you can get some great deals...
