Will value hold?
1) the fact that the stock vette has 400hp spells disaster for prices of King of the Hill cars and Z06. People paid a premium for these cars and now Chevy is willing to offer these numbers at the base level.
2)INTEREST RATES INTEREST RATES INTEREST RATES. As long as the majors offer zero or close to zero rates the used car market will continue it's death spiral.
BTW I agree with most on the forum. Cars are generally not a good investment. Try to buy the best for the least and have fun. But what do I know?
:skep: I haven't seen the C6 0-60 times or 1/4 mile but ZR-1s are still going to be very close in speed to the base model. Most ZR-1 guys have mods anyway.
It spells disaster for the early Z06 cars but not for the ZR-1.
The ZR-1 is a limited car. Yeah GM finally matched the ZR-1 speed in a base corvette -- 15 years later.

As far as the C4's value goes, I believe only the later models will decrease a bit more in the near future. As previously stated, earlier examples go for pretty cheap these days as it is. In a way the low value of my 89 gives me a reason to keep it forever and just buy a newer one later when their prices start dropping like rocks, and they will. :seeya
You are correct, you would have to change that as well -- it is not as simple as bolting on vortec heads. But you could probably do it for under $1,000

Now, 45 years after its birth, it is one of the more collectible ones out there.
I'm guessing that in 30 years from now (we've already had 15 years from the middle C4s), C4s, as well as C3s, C2s, and C1s will all be collectible.
Sure, there may be 350,000 C4s that were manufactured, but there will be many, many, many less after such a long period of time. Parts cars, accidents, etc. will take its toll on a large amount of them.
Will they ever be as valuable as the '67 Roadster or a nice '57 Vert? Probably not. But they may be close.
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
C5 used car prices will be based on the last model year being sold and with the deep discounts we are seeing now, it will drive all used C5 prices down by trickle effect. This will also have an effect on the C4 prices. Why buy C4 when you can get a C5 cheaper. Of course the C4 price will drop because of the market being flooded by all the lease returns and C5ers upgrading to the C6.
I think I got full value for my C4 as I have been driving it pretty much every day for the last five years. A few overseas deployments shortened my drive time in it somewhat, but I still enjoyed the car.
Too many C4's built to make them as collectible as the C2 and early C3's. But then, who knows what'll happen in 40 years. Maybe gas will be $10 a gallon or you won't be able to drive a gas-powered Corvette any longer.
C6 will cause the C5 to lose value. The C4 will not continue to drop like it has in the last couple of years and will stabilize. In a few years, you may see a slight increase in resale on the C4, but not much. In 15 years, you will start to see the C4 go up in value. Same trend happened with the C3. When the C5 came out, the landslide on the resale price stabilized. Now, they have risen in resale.
In the end, unless you buy a C1, C2 or early C3, just enjoy your car. Don't look at it as an investment!
I believe most C4's have bottomed out. There will be fewer and fewer as time goes along and if you have a clean one, I think they'll hold their value and slowly increase.
That said, I didn't by my 92 vert as an investment, I have enough of them. It's pure enjoyment. I will probably end up giving it away to one of my sons or another young guy who appreciates fine cars in a few years.

A 75 coupe for 5k can still be done here. I was offered a 72 coupe for $7,500
I didn't even go look at it.
C-4's bottomed out? The early cars have. 87 to 91's here are still above 10k
for a good one. 84 to 86's are $5k or less.
LT-1s here are $10k plus. Average is $12k.
All cars lose in value as time goes by. If you're waiting for the C-4's to be worth more than you paid don't hold your breathe.
A friend just sold his 02 Z06 after 6 months of ownership and lost 2k.
The guy that sold it to him lost $17k.
That car will lose money for the next 15 years or better.
As far as Corvettes goes as an investment or a hedge against inflation
you're better off investing in sea water.
Corvettes are more expensive here in the winter than the summer?
In the local trader there were several. I'll see if I can dig a copy up and tell you the years/prices.
When the C-6's come out, stand back!

The manifold is here; http://www.sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?act...1460&pid=13740
They have a swap "kit" that includes new vortec heads and all the stuff you need, or you can get a total vortec TPI crate motor here: http://www.sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?act...=1577&pid=9009
the web site has a little info, there catalog has a two page article, and I have seen two other web sites that have tested their configuration and verified the numbers, which are significantly better than an LT1.
