Was just wondering on anyones opinion of our C4 value as the C6 gets ready to debut? I was told by a guy that if the C6 comes in at $55k+ the value of the C4 would hold if not increase, could this be true?
Well with the majority of C4's hovering in the $10k range and the C5's well below $20k, I don't think they will hold. They will continue to drop to a point then most likely with the C7 they may start to rise again. There are simply way too many C4's out there.
I agree that the most C4s will not "increase" in value much. Some particular models (Grand Sports, Rubies, Pace cars for example) may someday have collector appeal, and could be worth more in the future than the currently sell for today. We have seen it happen with the past generation special editions. I guess we just have to keep them in good condition, and see what happens! Who would have thought that a 1970 Gremlin,or a Corvair might bring $10K from a collector ? (although both are quite rare)

C4 values were mostly "hurt" when the C5 came out... I do not think most C4's will drop below a certain point, that many are at now :yesnod:

They will probably drop more yet!
Bummer!

Not to contradict a moderator, but where are all the "well below" $20k C5's? I'd sure like to find one. Most C5's for sale on the forum are well above $20K.
By the way, vetterlatethannever, that's a really clever username? Welcome aboard.

Some of you people really surprise me. With over 350,000 C4s made, the C4 is far from being anywhere near a collector car. It will always have some value just by being a Corvette, but if you're so concerned about value, then you should invest in stocks or bonds or cds or something. If you're holding onto your car trying to preserve its value, you'll be very disappointed, because the C4 will never be as collectible as, say, a 1967 roadster. I love the C4, but a car is not an investment.

I agree, I've never seen a C-5 in the teens. C-4's here have held thier value for the last year.
The best cars to buy and not take a bath on are the early C-4's. They've bottomed out.
LT-1's are a bad bet.
i don't see my 85 depreciating any more than it already has
worst case i'll take a hit of a grand if i resell it
but if i were to buy a newer civic with the same mileage it would probably run me as much as the vette... and driving a vette sure beats driving a civic
It depends for C4 on condition of car. This discussion has really been coming up lately on the different forums for C4's and C5's. I live in the a big city area and we are higher here then most of the country not all. Cars might have less miles because a lot of people store cars and mileage is down and it makes them not used or maybe abused as much, it's case by case. I looked it our large newspaper to see what they are going for here sold by privately. Here's a rough sample for a winter sale:
01 Corvette coupe 4k $33.9K
01 ZO6 5K $36.9K
00 19K coupe $29K
96 Grand Sport 15K $34K
94 coupe 60K $15K
These are not perfect examples but what is happening here. This is winter so prices might be a little down we'll see. Dealers are higher.
If the price of these new ones keep going up the used market could benefit because it could be out of reach for most people we'll see, but will be lower then C5's.
Like I say a mortgage on a new one no way, let someone take that huge hit and make a deal on another Corvette. You don't have to buy it from someone but they might have to sell it that makes it a buyer's market in that case.
Was just curious not from an investment point but had been offered a chance at a C5. My 93 and $15k for a 2000 w/40k miles. Curious to opinions because I know the C5 will drop as it already is. To actually have a current vette body style seemed only like a dream, of course now C6... :( Time marches on... :cry
Bad time for collectors. I just sold my 65 Mustang. Nice, new paint, auto, 6cyl, air, and $4,900! We put that in it AFTER it was restored. My wife (and her ex) paid several thousand for a basic shell back in the heyday a few years ago. Late 80's Vettes are selling for way under $10k, converts getting about $9 or $10k. Just looked at a 98 for $19k like new. Half price! Have you ever seen a Vette sell for 1/2 price and only 5 years old??? Great time to BUY. Gotta get better... if the economy ever does (I mean real people, not the Dow or such bs, real wages). Doesn't look all that promising.
On the other hand, I did get my 87 vert for a song. My brother in law couldn't give it away in Detroit. Few more years of this "progress" and I figure I'll get a C5 for under ten!
