Hey, Ive got a squeaky front suspension. It of course only makes the loud squeak over speed bumps, and on rough roads.
Im just wondering if it might be the front shocks. It came wih rebuildable O.E. Bilsteins, but I didnt know it, and had them replaced with 19.99 Gabriels..lol..FRIKKEN PEPBOYS!!...
How can I figure out if its the Bushings or the shocks? The bushings look ok from what I see. But its a really loud squeak..I mean louder than the exhaust...heh
hi,sounds like your a frame bushings might be bad.spray some silicone spray on one a -frame at a time and try the bounce test and see if the noise goes away and then you found the one that needs the bushings.good luck greg84

Re: Squeaky Suspension (RED-85-Z51)
I have never heard shocks squeak. It's the bushings.
Also check to make sure your transmission cooler lines aren't touching. Mine were and made an embarassing squeak for over 6 months before I figured out what it was. All it took to fix was bending the lines apart.
ITS EATHER THE A ARM BUSHINGS OR THE SPRING IN THE SPRING POCKETS IN THE A ARMS.LOOK IN THE LOWER A ARM AND YOU WILL SEE THE RUBBER ON THE END OF THE SPRING.

It's the bushings. Mine was quiet as can be until getting on some dirty roads, mud and freezing conditions. Now it squeaks like an old fat man's shoes.
You just need to keep it lubed up. Put er up on blocks and spray on some dry lubricant, like silicone spray.
As has been suggested check your bushings on the control arms, the sway bar and the end links. How long have you owned the car? If the previous owner replaced the OEM bushings with polys, they have a tendency to squeek.
I installed polys on my 86 two years ago. Normally they don't squeek unless it gets cold or the car has been setting for awhile.
I used the grease supplied until it ran out. Went to a local marine (boating) supply store and picked up a tube of marine grease. Lathered the bushings and the metal. Clean-up was a bit of a bear but it was worth it.
The problem in the early C4 is the squeeky frt suspension. It is in the monospring in front. but greasing, lubing, whatever to the mounts is temporary. What i found and was told, is that the spring breaks sometimes you cant se it. I replaced mine on a 84 (after doing everything else) and that was it. I believe it was $150 and pretty easy to install on a lift. That solved it. No more embarassment driving over the bumps at local shows. So if your spending money anyway, just get a new spring.
