Re: How many guys have rebuilt...? (corvettemaster)
i rebuilt mine this summer at 113K. it was still running really good, but i have a SLP cold air intake, and it was raining real bad one day, and it sucked a bunch of water in the motor and.....bent a damn rod :mad so i was forced to rebuild it
Now thats interesting...I was just on the SLP site a few days ago and they had a question on their FAQ about water getting sucked up iinto your engine thru their cold air intake and they said it couldnt happen, lol! http://www.slponline.com/faq.asp#FAQ0016
Bought my 87 in Detroit. (Had 87,000 miles- ran great) Drove HALFWAY home to Fl. Bang-bang!
2 Rod bearings gone. New short block, rebuild heads... (you don't want to know how much!) from Anderson Chevrolet in Canton NC.
Drove home to Fl.
Still, it is worth it!
I had a blown head gasket at 195,000 miles and decided to rebuild the whole engine. It hardly had any wear. I did pick up about .4 seconds in the 1/8th mile after the rebuild and a new cam. It still needs a bit of tweeking. Gas milage is down by about 8mpg and she's running rich. Click here to see the rebuild
