Just wondering how many guys have rebuilt a L98, maybe at how many miles, and the reason why?
Also whos thinking about it, why there thinking about it, and if you did rebuild what were the initial things you looked for to lead you to that decision.
always thinking about a rebuild. she runs strong at 106k but I always keep an eye on threads about rebuilds. something might happen and I might need to get one in a hurry so i'm keeping notes. what shops people recommend. bad experiences. tips. basicly what the forum was built for.
I'm hoping to last to 150K+
i rebuilt mine this summer at 113K. it was still running really good, but i have a SLP cold air intake, and it was raining real bad one day, and it sucked a bunch of water in the motor and.....bent a damn rod :mad so i was forced to rebuild it
I bought my vette with the intention of putting in a Lingenfelter engine from the moment I wanted a vette. I drove my friends IROC in 1992 which had a SR/383 Lingy motor. It was soo nice, I had to have one.
My car had about 69-70,K on the clock. Nothing wrong with the stock 350 other than a bad harmonic balancer.
I don't regret it one bit. It has been a VERY durable engine giving it's best 1/4 mile performance with over 47,000 HARD miles on it. Thanks John! :blueangel:

Re: How many guys have rebuilt...? (85RIT)
I was forced to rebuild at 144,000 miles when I wiped 2 lobes off the cam. It was a good thing too because it turned out the main bearings were worn down to the copper backing.

This is pretty much my thinking also.My 86 has 102,000 and I am hoping for around 150,000.But when I do rebuild I will be going for major performance.
I'm in love with the 383 I built for the LT1. Just itching to do the same with the L98. If I didn't have a son going to an expensive grad school next year, it would probably be in the shop right now.
In response to your question. I would do to get the big torgue increase for my auto car. Car has 62K and doesn't need a rebuild yet.
109k ,Mobil 1 every 7k from day one...no problems yet.
It will pull 159 mph stock and is a trooper and I hope she stays that way.
I am in the process of getting my 383 in there but there is no need in it other than the fact that I love speed and I like to get there fast.
I did rebuild my 86E at 122k ....headgasket blew and threw a rod.
I rebuilt it and had no problems.
Piston skirt started scraping the cylinder wall in my '94 at 124k miles ... so i build up a 383 :).... too bad it went through a chain link fence 8 months later  .
