Default My First Mod

I figured I would share my success story with everyone. The battery in my LT4 went caput while in storage this winter, so I decided to replace it on my own. After reading several posts up here I went withthe Optima Red Top. It ran me about $130.00, but what the hell.

The posts here on doing this job were invaluable. I had no problem withthe screws in the wheel well, and the nut on the top wasn't a problem, once I started turning it itn eright direct, :D and the bottom screw easily lossened to slide the body panel off.

The negative battery lead came off no problem, but the positive one was stripped. So, having grown up on McGuiver, I jammed tin foil into the socket wrench and said a praye, and it actually worked.

Once, I got the new battery in, it fired up and sounded as a good as ever. Now, if only that ice and snow would go away, then I could get it over to the shop for its pain job.

Hope you enjoyed this, and thanks again for the people who posted about doing this job.

Good job  You picked a great battery :yesnod:

But you don't think we're gonna let you get away with a battery change being the only mod, right? :skep: Get back to wrenching!

Congratulations on your very first mod, well done  You're now ankle deep in what translates to a long and perilous journey filled with worm-holes in deep space, where inertia collides with negative gravity, where the once-innocent thought of a simple mod starts multiplying uncontrollably to cold sweats and long sleepless nights filled with downward spiraling vortexes spinning in utter disarray, all caused by plan upon plan of mod-mixtures, blending one into another in a mad confusion of living terror

Hey, That's not fair, I live in the Boston area and it's been around freezing for the last couple of months. Trust there is an entire segment of the country that has two cars. In my case, one Corvette and one 1988 Buick LeSabre. Try driving the Corvette in the ice and snow, I don't think so

When will winter end :cry

Does you red top have the posts on top? I've heard they get very close to the support bracket that goes above the battery.

The Red Top does have top and side mounted posts.

It really wasn't a problem getting the top posts past the support bracket. The real thing I was concerned with was getting it past, and I don't know the name of thing, a piece of equipment that is mounted right above the battery. It's circular in nature, right next to the computer. I had to push it up a little, but then the battery slipped in pretty easily. That was probablyt he easiest part of the job actually.
