Default power antenna help

I am in the process of replacing my power antenna. My hanes manual doesn't say crap about the wiring. I cannot seem to find the junction for the coax. Does it run from the antenna to the radio without a junction? If not, can someone give me rough idea of where it is? Thanks in advance.

I have no idea about the 88's but in mine (94) you would want to look in the little compartment behind the passengers seat.

pull out the driver side rear speaker, You can unplug the coax from the junction under the speaker.

On the coupe the power and antenna wires route along the driver's side rear hatch area, then go about 1/3 the way across the rear trim panel and exit to the antenna through a bulkhead hole.

The connections are under the rear trim panel and are usually buried in some foam pieces there.

Tip: Prior to pulling them through the bulkhead attach a string to them and then pull them through. Make sure you have enough so sufficient length remains in the hatch area. Re-tie the string to the new power and antenna connections and pull from inside the attached string to thread them back through the bulkhead hole.

You don't have to complete remove the drivers side hatch trim just remove the screws. This is necessary to remove the rear hatch trim panel which is really where you want to be.

Also if your doing this in your garage or something, the job is very easy if you jack up the driver's side rear wheel and remove it. Then remove the half dozen screws that attach the wheel liners and the antenna is right there easy access. I believe its one or two bolts and a ground connection.

Yes, I am. The antenna is stuck up and won't go down, even if I push on it when the motor is retracting. Junk it. :smash:

Before you buy a complete antenna, you may want to open it up. You drill out the 4 brass rivits on the side with the smaller flange. pry off the 5 or 6 keepers and open it up. You may fine out that the nylon cord has broken and it is easly replaced at less cost. Mine would go up, but not down. It turned out that the nylon cable pulled out of the top mast section. I will order the replacement parts from Eckler's and make the repairs.

good luck

I'd take it off your hands for you if you'd like. Let me know what you want for it. If your going to junk it, I'd cover the shipping to send it to me.

I'll probably hold on to it since it is OE. Along with my crackling Bose tape deck. Gotta love the way stuff goes to crap over 16 years.
