What a difference!!!
I just finished my upgrade from the scissor hood support to the hydraulic piston and I can't believe the difference :D I used to struggle with the hood every time I had to lift it. Now, I pop the hood, pull it up about 10" and the hood springs open with no assist from me. One of the most practical upgrades yet.

Did the same thing to my 85. I agree. One of the best upgrades I have done on the car and just about bolt in.

I think I want to do this, can I use any piston or is there a special kit for this?

Re: What a difference!!! (CG77VETTE)
All the catalog companies offer the kit but I got mine from Chris at Superior Chevrolet. The parts I recieved were as follows:
1 long gas charged strut
1 hood bracket
1 wheel well bracket
2 short gas charged struts
This kit converts the scissor to the newer gas charged system. Simple bolt on installation using existing holes and hardware.

This article gives a step-by-step. Have someone with you to hold up the hood just in case. It made me feel alot safer.

:iagree: Its a lot heavier then most cars, but really have more trouble with getting the latches to unlock on the first pull then getting it up.

I used a later model lift on my car. I got it from a salvage shop but I don't remember what year vette it came out of. I had to do a little mod to my lower brace to make it work. Just cut a little slot.Total cost $50
