300wrhp seems the be the magic number here for stock LT4s.... (+-10hp)
No Go (the one who dyno'd at 260hp) also had a bend rod if I remember correctly and thats why his dyno numbers were so low. (Correct me if Im wrong)
They were def. underated.... Usually about 350-360 hp seems to be teh concencus..... anything more.... I dont really beleive. 390.... no way
I am having mine dyno'd before I do anything to it to get a baseline... I will post results... I want to see a 3XX though.. that would really make me happy
thanks for the replys, i didnt think they would vary that much in modern times, but it is beleiveable that they would be underrated from the factory.
You have to remember that a chassis dyno is a tuning tool and nothing more, the figures they will produce will vary from dyno to dyno and calculating engine hp is a guesstimate at best and usually overstated as people would rather take a higher estimated hp as its more 'somewhere between 15-20%' (and up to 30% in AU). Then you take in air temp, pressure humidity etc and it starts getting vary complicated and varied.
Ive seen a stock vw beetle pull 200kw at the wheels purely because the dyno operator wanted to show how easily numbers can be fudged.
Personally I'm not a big fan of "dyno #'s because they can vary from one dyno to another... A dyno may be ok if you check a "particular" motor on it, then do some mods to "THAT SAME MOTOR" & recheck it on the same dyno.. you will see any improvement.. (if the weather conditions are the same).
I personally prefer to run my car on the track... where you need "MORE" than just HP.. I am a STOCK LT1 with only 1.6 RR, high stall converter, 160 thermostat, & drag radials, & I beat 99% of all LT4 I race at the track.. NOT because I make more power, but I get what power I have to the ground better..
In drag racing MPH will show you if you are making HP & your ET will show you if you have the car set up well for drag racing..
I've run as fast as 110 mph but 108 is more real for me, most LT4s will run 112 because they have more HP BUT I will still beat them to the 1/4 mile because of my chassis set up..
just my .02 cents..

Stock LT-4 running 112? That might be one of the ones way up in HP. My LT-4s best MPH is 109.8 (with a few bolt ons) and it dyno'd at 305.5RWHP, making it close to 360 at the crank using a 15% drive train loss.
I agree dynos are great for tuning, but when you start bench racing it's never an apples to apples conversation. Then again, the same can be said for track time - since weather on different days, different track preps, different track altitudes, etc. contribute to the ETs.
In addition to some great cars & great drivers, I think Englishtown is not only a well maintained track, but also it is near sea level so they get some great air there also.
Also the old term "stock" seems to have many variations to the its meaning...
Actually I didn't see stock & 112 mph in the same sentence...
At 109.8mph you are only 2 mph away from 112 so your car at sea level, a well prepped track, a nice cool night with good air, a few more mods (like remove sway bar), etc,.........I think you would see 112 also...got to love LT4's
ok where are all the lt4 members and there dyno results to put away this myth
I dynoed GS 468 and it hit 286 rear wheel at 5200 rpms.....I wasn't there when they did it, but she would have seen mid to high 290's. Never dynoed my red car. :seeya

Why'd you stop at 5200..... Thats when its starts to really get crankin!!!!
LS1 vs. LT4... that would be a good race. i know my LT4 completely stock beat a 92 6spd, the only mods he was actually getting power out of were LongTube Headers with Borla Mufflers, Crane LT4 RR's, and a cam (mild) dont know exact specs, he also he a BBK 52MM TB and a very crazy clutch from LUK... 390 hp from a stock LT4 is :bs for sure but i definetly wouldnt underestimate the LT4... man it keeps pulling all the way up to 6,300
