Me and my buddy were talking about what color he wants in his next vette.
The one he has now is red and he said he gets pulled over a lot for warnings and a few tickets. Do you guys think that owning a red Vette is bad for getting tickets? He thinks buying a white one will help him avoid a lot of stops by the police. Any thoughts?
My track record:
80 Pontiac Sunbird - Red - 1 ticket (accident that totalled the car)
82 Ford EXP (Escort) - Red - 2 tickets (both speeding)
90 Camaro RS - White - 7 tickets (speeding)
92 Mustang GT - White - 4 tickets (speeding)
93 Corvette - White - 4 tickets (1 running red light, 3 speeding)
02 Ford ZX2 - Silver - 1 ticket (speeding, fiance's car)
As you can see above, I think color has very little to do with it. Most is based on driving style. :jester I guess I need to slow down some... ...or get better radar detectors!!
Some insurance companies raise their rates if the vehicle is red.
My Mom used to work for the FBI at their acdemy in Quantico Virginia. A lot of FBI agents are former policeman. She asked a state trooper going thru the academy about what kind of cars he looked at for speeding and his answer was "All red sports cars and any corvette" At the time, I drove a red VW GTI and my license was always in trouble. Strangely enough, I've never gotten a ticket in the vette. The previous owner tried to tell me he thought there was something special about the black paint, like it absorbed radar or something. I highly doubt that's true, I just think I've learned how to speed and get away with it!
I almost said yellow but I think its the car more than the color. Had a tricked out Firechicken that was a cop magnet if there ever was one. Four warnings in a year but no tickets.
I think it may have more to do with how well messages are transmitted from the brain to the right foot! :D
My record:
`99 to present - `96 Polo Green - 0 tickets
`98 to `99 - `93 Polo Green - 0 tickets
`77 to `98 - `71 Silver (repainted Red) - 1 ticket - speeding
`75 to `76 - `64 Copper - 1 ticket - 108 in a 55
I had to sell the car after that one!
`74 to `75 - `61 Charcoal - 0 tickets
I will be the first to admit I've been very lucky a couple of times, but I've also slowed down (some) in my advanced years. :blueangel:
I can tell you that red, yellow, and white are the worst colors to have if you want to avoid being noticed at a distance, which is where most police officers see you at. I would say red and yellow are the 2 worst and then white. Although I think red and yellow are the best colors. Just my opinion but what do I know. LOL :D
One of my coworkrs is a former cop, he swears that red is a cop magnet. I don't have any statistics, but I do remember RED being the highest color car given speeding tickets. -->(70% of statistics are made up on the spot)<--Joke
On the other hand, I have a Torch Red Vette, and a Bright Red Grand Prix and have been clocked 10 miles over the limit by cops and NOT pulled over MANY times. Never gotten a speeding ticket before either.
As far as "Stealthiness"- I have seen on several shows that Corvettes are infact "Stealthy" against Radar (Not Laser). When a radar pulses out it needs something reflective to bounce it back- If you are driving a car with NO front plate, and NO headlights (cause they aren't popped up), then it will take longer for a cop to get a read on what speed you are traveling (assuming he is shooting from ahead of you). I've heard that cops aim for the plate because it is extremly reflective.
This is just stuff I've heard, I could be wrong. :auto:
If I ever get a ticket in the Vette it better be a big one. I want something to brag about. No wimpy 60 in a 50. Officer are you sure I wasn't doing 180?
