Default Replacing the nose emblem

I need to replace the sun faded original, but can't squeeze myself around to get a look into the holes under the hood. The replacement emblem I just bought has tapered, non-threaded posts while the rear gas door emplem is threaded. How does the front emblem come off and reattach the new one?

My 90 had acorn type nuts. Same size as rear. Put some putty in the socket to hold the nuts in the socket when you remove them and reinstall them.

I might have gotten an incorrect knockoff emblem from eBay because the new one does not have threaded posts to accept nuts like the one for the rear gas door. The stud posts are tapered and smooth and I can't see how a nut would work. :nonod:

The acorn nuts cut their own threads. I just use double sided tape when I replace the front emblem.

Yep, they are self-threading. Peel off the backing, stick the prongs in the holes and then thread the nuts back onto it. Doesn't look like it will work, but it does.

Just follow the advice and use putty inside your socket. I thought I could pull it off without it and dropped the nut inside the hole. I was able to fish it out with a magnet, but I won't try that again! :)

putty or automotive grease works. And yes, the nuts cut theyre own threads.

Pull the original emblem out gently.. so the threads don't drag past your paint and pull chunks off it.

Don't use the double stick tape, just secure with the nuts. That way youi can take it off when detailing

One more bit of advice on removing the old emblem. After removing the nuts, use waxed dental floss to break the seal of the old glue from the paint. Slowly glide the dental floss between the paint and emblem. This will keep you from damaging the paint. If there is any residue after the emblem is off, use 3M glue remover. Good luck
Mark

FWIW, my front emblem had no double stick tape or glue... but the rear one did.

The replacement ones I ordered from chevy were also this way. That rear emblem is a bitch to remove.

The next question would be: It the posts are self tapping when you put on the acorn nuts, is that a 1-shot thing or can you use the nut to thread the rod, remove it and then reuse it.

I replaced mine with GM. The front were the same as yours no threads..
I threaded mine with the nuts and then backed them off before putting them on the hood..and securing them..
They went on a little easier to me..
