Window film is more an art than a science. I've done it on several cars over the years, and it came out fantastic. Other similar cars I've attempted, and it look like $&@!. I guess the stars were not in alignment...
Also -- one bubble or kink in the film is one too many for a Vette. Fords are allowed a total of four defects to look good (per window) :D
If this is your first attempt you may not want to try on your vette. Even the pros say that the c4's rear hatch is one of the hardest to get right. I am allways the first to say If these guys can do it I am sure I can too, but in some cases (this is one of them) it is simply not worth it

:iagree: But I've done this before. If you think you can do it, do the side windows and if thats too hard for you, pay someone to do the back. I got my materials from a "performace" store around here. They sell a pice to do a hatch window. I just use sope water to apply the tint on with and squege the sope out the side's. Works 100x better than the "mix" the stores sell to do it. Have fun, it would cost you a 30 rack and $25 on materials.
One more thing, is why i do it myself is, there are 3 places that tint windows around here, lets just say they all do :U :U work. So be very carefull!!! Do look around/ ask people in your area. Who does good work? cuz you can spend $300 on a horable tint job. You would do fine B/C you care about your car, some kid makeing $10 an hour doesn't.
No one in my area does window tinting, this is another reason I would like to do it myself. Maybe a market niche. As for practice; I have some windshields and other assorted auto glass sitting around that I would practice on first. Also where the hatch glass is concerned I would simply remove it from the car and flip it up side down to work on it.
I have contacted a few places that do window tinting, the closest one to me is around 60 miles away and I have heard nothing but bad about them, they don't even warranty their work. I've talked to other places outside of my state and they have told me to make sure who ever performs the work that they warrant their work and material. Also if they are reputable they should replace it without any problems. I am closer to metropolitan areas in VA then NC.
I've just started putting back together my ZR1 which was refinished. There were a couple nicks in the tint and today I removed the tint. I believe it was done in '91 and removal wasn't as painful as I had expected.
The rear glass was done in four panels when I removed it. I was amazed "three" seams! It was a very good looking install and people remarked on it's appearance. There were very neatly cut "circles around the lift struts and the latch striker had a very near 3/16" border around it.
It was a Hawaiian install originally so theres no hope of getting the same installer. I do know what I expect though.
This installer gets the benefit of a "glass off" install.
