I've been searching the archives for about an hour now. I've come up with some good info, but I have a couple more questions.
I'll be replacing the roof front weatherstrip in the next couple of days. While searching, I found one thread that said that this piece does NOT use any adhesive. It says to unscrew the metal strips at each end of the top, clean them, then reinstall with silicone sealant underneath. Is this true?
Also, what exactly have you used to remove the old W/S boogers? I don't have any specialized tools, I was thinking of just using a small slotted screwdriver and some 3M adhesive remover. Any other thoughts?
Any more tips/ideas/suggestions are welcome. Moans, gripes, and complaints will receive a :beatdeadhorse: . :D
Going to tell you how I installed my weatherstrip and what happened to me. Removed old and scraped off leftovers.
Fit top part into grove and glued sides. Took putty knife and held back top piece and glued it to front of winshield frame.
Let all of it set for 24 hours and installed top. Two months latter I pulled car cover off and top was cracked. Repaired top and put in rain yesterday, no leaks.
I am guessing that cold weather and a new thicker than old weatherstrip caused the crack. Next time I will do it in warm weather. :yesnod:

I had adhesive on mine. I bought this to help me take the weatherstrip off http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...QTBPVPCKES0C91. I didnt use much if and adhesive remover. When I started on one end I was able to get the adhesive to come off with the weatherstrip, then all I had to do was peal the weatherstrip off the retainer. I think I was lucky though.
