I looked through some of the other threads, and couldn't find anything definitive. Does Optima make a battery with side terminals only? My parts store said No.
The top positive terminal is leaning slightly against the part that sits above the battery (not a tight fit, but definately touching). Is the cap that covers the top terminal going to protect it over the life of the battery?
Re: Optima Batterys, Side Terminals Only? (Sting1978)
I could not get one with only side mounts. Parts store said no to me also.
That's exactly how mine fits.
I hope the cap protects it, so far I've had no problems, although the battery has just been put in within the last month. It does have nice starting power!

I pulled it out and can already see a little red plastic on that metal piece, plus a slight indent into the cap. I really like the Optima battery, but am a little bit uncomfortable with this. Maybe I am just a spaz.

Just cut off the top post, that's what me and most everyone at the track has done. Should take all of about 10 seconds with a hacksaw. Then cover the cut area so nothing can ground out on it, I used some silicone.

The only problem is you lose the warranty on it if you do that... On my last Vette, I just notched the cruise control bracket where the POS post is when installed... Worked great...
