Hey guys, I had to get the vette smoged today. I drove it around for a while to get everything nice and hot then I went down to a "TEST-ONLY" station that's close to me. The guy was real professional and didn't give me any BS about any of my mods or anything. I just don't like how he rode the clutch backing up on to the dyno rollers . He just looked like he was trying to be extra careful with it. Here are my results. If you have any comments just let me know.
TEST 15 MPH - RPM 1947
HC (PPM) MAX 84 AVE 21 MEAS 6
CO (%) MAX 0.49 AVE 0.06 MEAS 0.01
NO (PPM) MAX 692 AVE 150 MEAS 146
TEST 25MPH - RPM 2166
HC (PPM) MAX 49 AVE 13 MEAS 22
CO (%) MAX 0.46 AVE 0.05 MEAS 0.01
NO (PPM) MAX 711 AVE 136 MEAS 253
AVE= Average Emissions For Passing Vehicles
MEAS= Amount Measured
Not bad if you ask me, how have your cars done when the dreaded Smog time comes around?
Most cars pass, all of mine pass.
Corvettes usually pass with flying colors. I had a Corvette I bought out of Washington State and it had no California smog equipment and headers. It was a 50 states car.
It was tested in Los Angeles and it burned cleaner than a California car.
I just smogged my 87 not too long ago, and I didn't have precats, just the main cat, and here's how I measured up...
15mph:
HC - Max=112 Measured=23
CO - Max=.72 Measured=.02
NO - Max=778 Measured=390 (Remember, no PreCats)
25mph:
HC - Max=86 Measured=11
CO - Max=.60 Measured=.01
NO - Max=717 Measured=277
Man! I flunked big time! Ya know here, if ya don't get it to pass, you have to throw it away :yesnod: I've worked on it, and I'm gonna try it again.
Never had a problem, even when the head gasket was leaking. There is no special smog equipment on CA C4. A California car got an extra sticker charge for an assembly line sniff, but all the C4's have the same equipment as does allmost every car built since about '82.
Yeah, mine originally came from Las Vegas anyways. LOL, it's interesting how my Hydrocarbons raise with speed while others go down. Oh well, I wasn't even close to the limits. I might be a bit more worried when I tear into the inside of the engine. It'll probably run almost the same if not cleaner depending on cam choice.
I have passed the CA analyser test with no pre-cats,EGR disabled, Long tube headers, Random tech main cat, and no A.I.R. Pump. I just have to put everything back to stock to pass "Visual". Goes to show why so many favor the idea that only the tail pipe analyser part of it should matter. Who cares what mods you have as long as your exhaust gases are within CA specs. I wish all that "Visual" B.S. would be thrown out the window.
