I have an 88 and it runs fairly well, lately sometimes the service engine soon light comes on. When it does, the car's idle goes up and down when driving around town, and it seems to shift sluggishly. No problem when you accelerate, just when driving 0-50 range. Any ideas?

Re: Idle/surge issues? (CENTURION)
With so little to go on from your post I'll make a wild guess and say it is probably one of the MAF relays. As mentioned, pull the codes at the ALDL and that will tell you a LOT.

Thanks.
Centurion, this exact same thing happened to my '90 when I sideswiped a massive curb with the rear right wheel. One or more of your wheels may need alignment. I think the ECM tries to compensate for it somehow. The Service Engine Soon light came on and my idle was f**** up like it was in running at the rate of higher gears than it should be. When I had it checked, the guy said the rear was like way off. Did a 4 -tire computerized alignment and no problems since. U should probably check into it. :yesnod:
