I don't know if i am being old fashion, stubborn or just snobbish but I see
many great looking Vettes on the road but one caught my eye the other day
that ruffled my feathers. A late model C4 Dark Green with 97/98 C5 Rims.
After going off in a tirade my wife told me that not everyone is into Corvettes like you are and there is nothing wrong with it.
I dont know , I just think its not right...look a 95 or 96 Vette is a 95 or 96 Vette!! You go and put 97 rims on it and you got...well a thing ...like your not proud of having a 96. Same with my 86. Yeah sure bigger rims and tires would look and maybe perform better but I am proud to have an 86 and don't want to pretend that I am driving something else. Am I right , wrong or do I need a vacation??? [IMG][/IMG] :chill:
Nice title! I too think that a Vette should have the wheels that belong on it. However, I do not get :mad about it. Everyone has their own opinions and tastes! As long as it looks good! :yesnod:
My wheels are all stock and will stay that way, but what's the real difference between putting C5 wheels on and putting later C4 wheels (ZR1s, etc.) on a C4. The only thing I question is using the C5 wagon wheels instead of the 2000s...

Re: Intergenerational Co-mingleage? (JIMMY Z'S86)
I see your point. Let's see if I can put this into proper perspective..........
Have you changed anything at all on your corvette? If not, then you are probably the only one out there who hasn't. Some only change tires, or radio, or spark plug wires. Others totally recreate their corvette in their own personal style. The vast majority of us lie somewhere in between.
I have changed several items on my coupe and each one represents my perspective of what that item should look like or how it should perform. I have the original Bose system and I will not change it no matter how many times I have to repair it. That is my choice. On the other hand, I have ZR1 chromies which did not come on the 91 standard coupes, as everyone knows. These are my choices as are your modifications to your corvette.
I would never tell anyone what they can or cannot do to their corvette. I have my prejudices and biases as does everyone. I try to keep them to myself and celebrate the fact that we live in a country where we are prosperous enough to have such wonderful cars and are able to modify them freely, within the law of course. Now, would you want to live somewhere that you could not do these things to your own car?
I see & appreciate your point. I always have been a stickler for keeping my Vette stock but I see nothing wrong with better engine and interior upgrades. I confess I salivate through Ecklers and MID catalogs looking to upgrade
certain engine components. I dont think I'd go so far as installing a Paxton system but K&N upgrades a sweeter exhaust system & the likes are a-Ok and lots of fun. I guess I prefer the "sleeper" type Vette as Opposed to the flashy one.
i go back to 72 and had my first vette. it was a 66. the first thing i did was put headders and clean exhaust on it. back then if you remember it was whomever was fastest was king of the road. we modified everything back then. now a younger generation is doing the same thing, more power to em, a vette is a raw canvas to be personalized by its owner, be proud of the freedom and indvidualism we have with our cars, and our country. you have yours your way, and i have mine myway. thats what makes us uniquek. forgive the spelling if its wrong please. wouldn't this be a bland world if all cars were the same as those in charge of making them, had us keep them that way? :flag
I'm not a fan of changing the looks of a Corvette; that's my choice and opinion. I happen to like the looks of the oft-denigrated "sawblades" on my Ruby. I, too, happen to prefer my OE Bose "Gold" and have no interest of swapping it out for a noise maker. I prefer the more subtle changes, sill protectors (practical), good quality, fancy floor and cargo mats (logo) and turbo mufflers (fun). I even bought a new Maglite because it closely matches the color of my car. But, having said all that, to each his own. That's not to say I have to admire stuff when folks change things. I'll wave anyway and try to hide the slight "lip curl". At least these folks are driving Corvettes and not some cookie-cutter POS. The only thing that really gets to me are folks that let their Corvettes look ratty because they can't seem to find time to clean it up. Won't take any excuses for that.
I kinda agree, but think others should be able to mod their car their way. I personally prefer the stock look of my car. Its unique in and of itself. There is simply nothing else like a Vette. That being said, let others mod the hell out of their cars. As for the worth of those mods beyond personal aesthetic tastes, only actual resale $$$ will tell.
EEEGAAADS!!! I almost take it personally when I see a Vette that is potentially a diamond in the rough...the rough being months of grime and dirt , because the owner does not appreciate the beauty of a Vette. I tell my wife .." give me a bucket , sponge, soap water & polish and I can make a show car out of that". THIS WAY TO THE CAR WASH BUDDY!!! :auto:
Some mods are ok, but there is a limit to everything. I want my Vette to not be like every Black 89 coupe. Just enough to personalize it. I love the way the old GTO spoilers look, but can't bring myself to drill holes in the car to mount one. To each his own..... But I agree the worse offense is a dirty Vette. :mad :mad :seeya

You're wrong - it's not that big a deal. I was never a fan of any of the stock C4 wheels, except the 5-spokes. The sawblades grew on me more than I thought they would in the 5 or 6 months before I took them off, but they were still too bland for me and I wanted a change. 5 hours of clay bar & waxing yesterday says I have plenty of pride in my '96. It's not a matter of feeling inferior or pretending it's something else, it's a matter of thinking my car could look even better than when I got it. I'd suggest you use that vacation money on a new set of wheels .
If some C5'er was tooling around with sawblades on, I'd think HE was a little wacky, though.

The stock '85 wheels look like shiznit. GM fugged up.
I'd rather drive what you consider a bastard Corvette than have to look at those nauseating stock wheels everyday. And just to rub it in, I'm going to put '67 vette valve covers on my TPI motor.
See sig. IMO modest changes but a much better looking car than when it left the factory. All parts belong on a C4 some just came from a newr one. Never heard it looked bad or botched. It is still 100% corvette
