Hello all,
Driving in the Highway, a rock broke my windshield. Any ideas on Corvette windshield. I kind of remember someone in the forum mentioned that original windshied is better than that glasses companies use for replacements.
Any comments?
Having worked for Pilkington, a company who makes a lot of OEM and aftermarket auto glass, I can tell you I've seen a lot of C4 windshields with lamination defects in the upper corners. It appears as little bubbles between the pieces of glass, which over time can cause the glass to crack. Your best bet is to shop the glass installation places a little. Find one that will allow you to inspect the glass prior to installation and possibly let you watch the process. They are entirely aware of how **** we Corvette owners are :jester and with all the competition in the industry these days it shouldn't be hard to find somebody willing to cooperate with you. Good luck.
Had mine replaced last year, had to do it twice. First one had waves in the corners. Ask for the OEM glass. And remember to replace the weather stripping that runs across the top and pillars. Your insurance sould cover that also.
I was going to replace my 20 year old windshield but now you've made me pause...is there anyway to restore an original windshield that has that tatered look from road wear and such? Can you polish the glass or something?

Not that I know of. Scratches can be buffed out, but once the glass gets pitted and blasted from the highway I think you're SOL. Even if it could be fixed it'd probably be cheaper just to replace it.
My windshield just got broken by road debri when I was cruzin down the Turnpike :mad I took mine to Safelite to have it replaced thru the insurance and it ended upbeing distorted. Gave me a headache when I drove it. Even my wife noticed. I took it back to the manager and he told me it was normal with Vettes, Mercedes and other high end luxury cars. He did already have another glass waiting for me. I looked at it, and I saw that it was not distorted. If you can, check before they install it. Just make sure they hold it at the right angle as if it was already on the car.
