Default Headlight Problem

Hope someone can help. My headlight motors keep clicking all the time. After several days the battery runs down. I replaced the relays but that didn't help. Does anyone have an idea as to what my problem could be?
Thanks

Within the hear case/motor housing there are limit switches which cut power at the end of travel. If the headlights are not reaching these limit switches power will not be terminated.

Such a problem could be caused by disintegration of the three nylon bushings in the gear case. Move the manual ***** and if manual control feels "mushy" replace the bushings in that headlight assy.

Thanks for your reply. The motors just had the nylon bushings replaced with metal. Is there some way to adjust the limit switch?

I've not had to address those switches but believe they are within the motor housing.

BTW, are you sure the headlights are going to their mechanical stop positions?

When the headlights are open I don't hear the clicking and the lights are aimed properly. The problem comes in when I turn the lights off. I will see if there is more travel available for closure when I get home this evening.
If you can think of anything else, please let me know.

I suspect it's your internal bushings. When they turn to power, they allow excess travel of the worm grear, which results in the clunking noise you hear.

When you say bushings, are you referring to the two bushings holding the forward and aft motor shaft snugly into the case? They are brass and rounded on one side and flat on the side that you see when you crack open the case. Would that be what you are referring to?

I presume these limit switches must be somehow adjustable? And I would assume they must be somehow adjustable while on the car(?)

Replacing these are really pretty easy. I had to do both sides to get them set.

DO NOT GO TO THE DEALER ON THIS!!!!!! They'll want to replac ethe whloe assembly! 800 a side!

I am sorry that I forgot to mention that my Corvette is a 1985. I don't believe these motors have the bushings like the 1988 and above.

Got both mine fixed Saturday. Now they're rolling forward good as new. If anyone needs any help, holler at me. I've become very proficient at fixing this common C-4 malady.

No, you're talking about the shims. The bushings are hollow, nylon spacers. Go to Home Depot and ask for item number 595609. They are .69 cents for a package of three. You'll need 6 spacers to do both headlight motors.
