Hi guys im new to the forum and my dad gave away his 86 Vette to me He got sick of it, and doesnt hav time for it anymore, so he gave it to me for a graduation present Now it has 50k org miles and it needs some work done, like the leather sits are beaten out, Rims are just awful There dirty and faded, the paint is excellent! (he repainted it ) Its got a l98 which needs to be cleaned up... The other day when i started it up (been siting all winter) I charged the battery and then started it and all this dark blueish kinda smoke came out?? Is this oil? I herd these 350s had bad valve seals when they sit too long, im no mechanic tho so im dumb.... Anyways He any suggestions for mods and upgrading a 1986 Corvette?? Also what r Stock Specss in a 86? I herd its 0-60 in 5.6 secs and 14.4 in a 1/4mile, is this true? Thanks guys!
Yes, the valve seals deteriorate over time causing the oil on startup you saw. Before my new heads were put on my '87 did that once per day.
The spec's you got are good ballpark figures for decent street tires. We've seen anything from 13.9 to 14.7 depending on the driver, the track, the weather and the tune of the vehicle.
Welcome aboard. I have recently got a 86 beater that I am messing around with. Very fun to drive.
As far as your smoke, it is probably oil that dripped though the valve guides into the cylinders. If it did that on initial start up after not been run for awhile I wouldn't be too concerned. Drive the car around a few weeks and then see what happens. If it still does it then you can just live with it or change the valve guides. Somewhere I heard there is a way of doing it without pulling the heads.
you know what sucks tho My dad used to take care of it and it was soooooo clean and nice..... For the last few yrs he hasnt been taking care of it and led to some issues..... The paint is the only good thing about the car (thank god) He left outside all winter !?!?! for the last 3 winters with a cover on it Now thers 10000000000s of mice, The inside car stinks, the seats are beated up, the carpet is stained with mud, The steering wheel is destroyed, The rims are faded, all the power windows button pictures are faded, mice poopie everywhere, E brake dont work...... Engine is filthy..... Its depressing Atleast its a COrvette...... Well theres alot of things do with this car..... Thank God i have the CAMARO also
Nothing like having a Corvette. Just think, with all the money you saved by not having to buy it, you can put it into the car and get it looking like you want it.
hey Scorp, i live in the Dedham Area, Yup i see alot C4s around here
If you ever need a knowledgable shop to do work then go to River Street Collission in Dedham and talk to Paul. Tell him Brian Day sent ya. I don't think theres anything the group of us in this area haven't had to fix on these damn things.
Yeah my dad has a shop as well, and he just doesnt take care of his cars anymor....... Hey thanks for the info maybe ill stop by, and i think i know where that place is
