CCM Help 96 vette
How hard is it to get to the CCM, Can I put a used one in, and will it read Ok with the pcm that I have now or will the used CCM have to be reprogramed to the pcm?

Re: CCM Help 96 vette (mslitti)
Getting to the CCM is not too difficult, just takes a while. I had to remove the dr. seat, under steering wheel panel and knee guard, console lid, center console, side carpet and various relays under the dash, then I finally got to the CCM.
The used CCM does contain the mileage of the donor vehicle and I'm fairly sure that it would need to be corrected by the dealer. The problem was most of the dealers I talked with wouldn't touch it because of tampering legal problems. They said they would be glad to do the install, for $500+
I ended up putting back my factory unit as it turned out not to be the problem (I need to work on my diagnostic skills).
btw - if you do buy a used CCM, remember to get the VATS key code as you will have to have another key cut for you car with the CCM's resister.
Hope this helps.
See you on course.

When I ordered my CCM from Vette2vette, he sent the pellet number on the invoice. I would imagine that any Corvette specific salvage yard would do the same.

I would like to hear any success stories on replacing the CCM, I need it done in my car and cant find anyone that tells me the same thing, says CCM and PCM have to be replaced together and miles set by dealer if you mess it up it cant be corrected EVER???

The Helms manual says a brand new CCM can have the mileage programmed by a Tech-2 machine (dealer only) within the first 100 miles. Once you drive 100 miles, the mileage is no longer programmable.

That is why a used CCM should only be used as a diagnostic tool, or have mileage close to your own.
