Default Oil Change

New Guys on the Block. Just bought a 89 coupe L98 Dark Red Metellic.
My Son talked me into going Half's.
Car has a engine oil cooler. Does this increase the Oil capacity??
Manual says 5 quarts, but nothing about oil cooler.

Have learned alot on the Forum. Keep up the good works. THANKS

My '89 has the oil cooler. According to the dipstick, its an extra 1/2 quart to full.

Ok...maybe yours is routed different than mine, but lets think about this.....Adding a cooler that wasn't there before is obviously adding capacity to the oil system, so you should add a bit to cover that additional space just to be safe anyway.

I took him to mean he has the factory oil cooler, which I also have.

If he has an external one in front of the radiator, of course he has to add more.

The factory oil cooler does not add any extra oil capacity. It is not a air to oil coooler but uses coolant to cool oil above the oil filter area.

Please describe how the oil cooler looks and where is it located? My 89 has engine coolant going to the oil filter area.....is this the cooler?

Sounds like it. While my Corvette does not have an oil cooler, my VW Scirocco does....and it is an 'adapter-like' device installed between the oil filter and the block. It has coolant lines running to it and its purpose is to stabilize oil temps (rapidly warm the oil at startup and prevent excessively high oil temps during running).
