who sells kits? i know some people said there are cheap kits out there but dont last very long. anybody have any pics of what these look like on a late model C4?
Just posting this for information.
I saw some excellent led tail lights on of all things a British double decker bus, I was in traffic and came alongside a brand new bus, the units were obviously 24volt (but I'm sure could be converted quite easily). However, they were the best units I have ever laid eyes on. I have seen some 6" units on HGV's ( 18 wheelers?) and they look reasonable, but a bit agricultural in design. These were, or seemed about 6" and had about 20-30 led's in each unit. The units were a chrome, (probably chromed plastic) with each led in its own recess and a clear cover. They did not look like a Lexus/rice burner, They looked the business! The led's where red on the stop/tail and get this, amber on the turn signals. However this was a couple of months ago and unfortunately, I have not seen the bus since. The bus had no company markings and may have been passing through, as I live near a large sea port. If I find any more info, or see it or another again, I now have a tape measure in the car to try and confirm the size and also try and identify the manufacturer. I don't mean to post mis-information, but just wanted to let you guys know what is out there. I was waiting until I could find some more info. but this post seemed as good a time as any to chip in.

I know this post was originally about C4's but I really want LED tail lights for my C5 I've seen a few links on the web but I was wondering if anyone has tried these or has any advice on what to buy or avoid.
Eckler's has them: 1984-90 kit $439. 1991-96 kit $349. 1997-04 kit $500.
Or you can buy the bulbs 1956-96 - PN 45088 $15.99 each.
1197-04 PN 45090 $15.99 each.
I like the way they work on the new Caddies!
one thing to consider is not necessarily the reliability of these things, but the scatter in degredation of the LED's. when i look at vehicles with first-gen production LED taillights, often i see a noticeable scatter in the brightness of the LED's - the lighting doesn't look uniform anymore.
didn't mean to rain on your parade but my comments are based on hopefully older technology. might want to ask LED taillight owners how long they have had them.
Do you think it would be better to get the whole kit with the 4 housing assemblies (such as from Eckler's or any of the other 3 sites) or just buy the bulb(s) from somewhere like jamstraight and switch them out? I'm pretty novice at all this and can't envision the difference. You're exactly right about the caddies though - that's exactly what I want!!
I'd replace the bulbs. In fact, you may have helped me talk myself into it. It's a simple matter to remove the lens and change the bulb out. The lens may stick, though, if it's never been out, so be careful you don't crack one while removing it.

Do you know which bulbs from that site would fit a 2002 C5, or how I could figure that out?
wow those LED bulbs might be an interesting thing to try. you can probably get them pretty cheap at autozone or pep boys and since they are just 1156 bulbs theres no vett tax!
i didnt even know these existed. anyone try them? either on ther vett or anything else?
so i guess nobody has any pics of leds on their C4? weather it be a complete conversion or the LED bulbs like were mentioned before?
It would only be a picture of the bulb. They look the same until brake/running lights are on. The difference is that they are on immediately, and off immediately as opposed to filament-type bulbs which take several milliseconds to come up and to go off. No big thing, just looks cool!
