I just bought this car a few weeks ago and will have a few hundred tech questions. I paid $10983 for it at a mercedes dealership. Included were new registration stickers, title transfer, and a full tank of gas. It had about 25500 miles on it and looks nearly perfect inside and out. I did have to replace a power window and a power door lock switch, and adjust the parking brake. I will do all the maintainence stuff on it asap so I know where I'm at. The power window antenna doesn't work either. It has an after market kenwood radio that works fine but I'd like to replace it with something that fits properly without the use of a dash kit. I feel I paid a lot for it but that was expected because I was buying from a dealership. I pulled the trigger on it because of it's condition and the miles...and it's red! Enough back ground, heres question #1.
In '87 did any, all or none of the corvettes have remote operating door locks and hatch lids? If not, I'm installing it for sure. Just did my son's gmc truck not long ago and it was a piece of cake. If anyone has added this to their c4 I'd appreciate any tips as far as easiest place to access the wires for the door lock and hatch lid, and a good place to hide the transmitter. Thanks in advance.
In 87 keyless wasn't an option. On my 87 I got sick of the POS stock alarm, had an after market put in w/keyless entry, and hatch. It also came with options for remote windows and remote start-which I haven't added YET. Congrats on your new ride. I think the price was right on( of course I'm prejudice) and welcome to the hospital-alot of grey matter here.
Nope: no keyless systems on 87's. There are alot to posts on installation as related to the VATS system ... you should check those out before going ahead.
As far as the sterio, go online to doctordon.com (corvette sterio and kits) he has kits and sterio's for C4's..
I put some stuff on from this place. Keyless entry, proximity alarm, pager and rear hatch release. Rear hatch is very handy when you have an armful of groceries.
Make sure whichever system you go with has instructions on how to handle the Vette's factory security system. It'll save you a lot of hassle.
I have an aftermarket keyless entry system in my 85. Wasn't too hard to do. All the wires you need to access are under the hush panel at the driver's left knee which is also a good place to mount the receiver. I had to add some relays to invert one of the outputs from the door lock circuit and add another relay to buffer the output for the hatch release.
All the wire colors you need are obvious when you take the driver's door panel off. Just identify the colors there and trace them back to the area under the hush panel.

Re: 1987 keyless entry (newbecorvetteguy)
As said, this was not an option in 87. If you contact the National Corvette Museum you can get a reprint of your car's window sticker and build sheet to see what options came on your car. Happy Corvetting! :flag
What is the talk about installing relays and factory security system? The car didn't come with the owners manual...another thing on my list of things to aquire, so I don't know if it has a security system or how to work it if it does. It does have a 'security light' on the dash that comes on when I open the door. I can't remember the circuitry of the switches in my son's gmc truck, but it seemed that all the remote did was complete the circuits in the same manor as the manual switch does. If that's the case, what is an additional relay for? I was hoping for an under dash location that I could find the wires to the door lock and rear hatch so I wouldn't have to take a bunch of stuff apart. No such thing I suppose. No big deal...just looking for the easiest way possable. Thanks for all the tips. Keep them coming.
