I need to replace the plug wires on my 95 coupe. Should I just go with the GM ones? Anybody have a really good experience with some other kind?
Thanks.
When we had the '92 tuned at a GM dealership (plugs, wires, coil, icm, waterpump & opti spark) we stayed entirely GM (except for the Bosch Plat-4's) - just trying to keep 100% electrical compatiblity as designed.
We just put a Delteq Opti-Direct system in using Moroso Blue Max Spiral Core wires!
I'm having great success with my Accel Performance silicone plus, Graphite, RFI Suppression core 8.8's Plus, I think the yellow with red boots looks tight.

im confused.
you had a dealer put in a new opti and wires and then added the opti-direct?
those are spendy i see (670 bucks),any noticeable affects from it?
Get the Taylor spiro Pro 8 mm wires, you won't be disappointed.
I got a 30' length from Summitt, along with new boots, this way I could cut them to length to route them under the headers. I have bought made up sets before and never been happy with the individual lengths.
The Taylors come in fancy colours too. I thought I would be daring and chose black.

We had the dealer put in the new "stuff" (all GM) and after only 28K miles, the Opti crapped out... this time, we opted for the Delteq - and glad we did!
I have a complete report on the Delteq install and results ready for publication on the forum, but can't figure out how to post it under Tech-tips... its 19 pages with pics!

linkschamp, Ive recently submitted a tech tip and although it hasn't been put up yet, here's how,
At the top toolbar of this page click the "OTHER" tab then C4 then when C4 tech tips opens you'll see another C4 tech tips tab at top area of that page. Click it then you'll see another tab that say's "Submit tech tip" Click here and follow the simple instruction. I'm not sure how much you can submit. 19 pages may not fit. You may need to cut it down to just the meat and potatoes. And like I said, it takes a while for them to get them posted after submission. It's been like 2 weeks since I submitted mine. So be patient. They have their hands full,I'm sure, with all the new software adjustments and what-not,
Good luck,
Dave

nice!! lookin forward to it.thanks for thinkin of us here and taking the time to document it!
i want to get mine to where it fires instantly when i hit the switch.
The GM wires will fit and perform just fine. If you want some fancier wires you can option for the 96 LT4 wires if you want red wires. Taylors are fine aftermarket wires and with minimal effort they can be made to fit the stock wire hangers and looms. Going to a wire any larger than an 8mm wire will make your weekend of plug wire installation miserable. Trying to feed them into and making the larger wires fit a loom made for a 7mm wire will reall PI** you off.
I see no benefit whatsoever from going to a larger wire in a stock or even a modified street driven car. I know I may get flammed for that statement but I can tell you from being an electrical engineer that as long as the insulation is not compromised on the wire and if the insulation as designed is adequate for the voltage level there is no need for a larger OD wire with additional insulation qualities. As for the low resistance wires. The only benefit would be from additional heat protection. I can also tell you that for the given length of wires and for the higher resistance wires, there would be no appreciable voltage drop between a wire that is 2 feet long and a wire that is three feet long. One has to know that with an HEI or most any late model ignition system there is a 50kV voltage potential there. A typical spark plug takes only 15kV to jump the gap, those requirements go up to as much as 25kV under high RPM and higher compression situations. If you want aftermaret wires the Taylors are the way to go. Plus they have several colors to choose from
