Earlier this week replaced water pump, top/bottom rad hose, thermostat, plugs and had injectors cleaned on my '93 LT-1.Opti-Spark OK. Then yesterday after getting gas troubles began. Car began to run horribly--stalling, hesitating, backfiring, pinging etc. Also started to run hot up to 235 degrees. No check engine light came on. What can be the cause---clogged fuel filter, bad O2 sensor, bad MAF sensor, faulty ECM, air in the cooling system? What do I need to check? Afraid it will not make it back to the dealer without craping out. Owning a 'Vette can be frustrating at times.
Typically when changing out a water pump it is usually a wise idea to also change the Opti-Spark at the same time. Is the Opti relatively new and that is why you did not change it out also?
Opti's hate water, and there's a chance it could have gotten wet.
Problem was condensation in fuel sytem which was solved by adding a bottle of dry gas. Car is not driven very often and I found out from a Service Tech at a local repair shop that when putting gas in a car that sits for long periods there is a risk of this moisture problem surfacing, gas and water don't mix well. Good practice would be to add a bottle of dry gas every time you fill up. Lesson learned.
