Does your car run as smoothly at high RPMs as it does down low? My car is as smooth as glass below 3500-4000rpm, but up around 5-6+, it's not the same. Since this is my first manual transmission car, I'm curious if this is normal or if it's an indicator of something?
On previous (automatic) vehicles I've driven, yeah sure, they get louder as they rev, but this is more like a "shake." Any thoughts?
I see you live in Milpitas - you mind if we go out on a ride sometime? I'd like to ride in your car and feel what it's like, and then have you ride in mine and compare...
From what you described it sounds like you may have a clutch thats starting to slip. Usually you will see a worn clutch (friction material) start to slip at higher RPMS first and over more time that slipage will become more noticeable with less and less RPM. Another Couple of things to consider is fuel prerssure/volume. you could have a fuel filter thats plugged or a fuel pump thats on its way out. easily checkable with a fuel pressure tester with a relief valve. Lastly with that kinda RPM depending on the Age of the Vette, your Rev limiter in the PCM (computer) could be kicking in and limiting the amount of RPM's the engine will do. Iam not sure what the rev limiter is set at on Vette;s but on your daily driver 3.1 GM's its set at about 4000 RPM if the PCM doesnt sense a vehicle speed sensor input. Hope that sheds some light.
Just high RPM - although that usually equates with high speeds, but I notice it just as much in 1st gear as I do in 3rd. I'm usually not up into the 5-6k range in 4th or 5th, though! From a previous post, if I were to venture a guess from your options, I would have to say that it most 'feels' like a fuel system issue. Don't get me wrong, the car definitely still pulls like a mother f'erl, but I've always wondered if there's more "there." Since this is my 1st manual tranny car, I wouldn't know what high RPM clutch slippage felt like if it were kicking me in right in the face...
