I just bought my first vette, a '96 Lt1, but the owner didn't have the door keys, and I am not going to use the keyless remote (I don't trust em). Any suggestions on changing the locks or anything. I already went to the dealer to get keys cut, but they didn't work. Please help out. Oh yeah, I just joined the forum, but I have been reading on here for a while.
Welcome!
Any good locksmith can cut you a key that will work, but I'd be really skeered of a car that someone had kept the keys to! I'd change them out. They're only $13 each, not really easy to change, but not impossible either. There's just a lot of stuff in there. Buy maintenance manual from Helms, Inc. (on the Internet).
The keyless remote is one of the best ever put into a car. The VATS system is a complete theft PREVENTION system, not just a noise maker. Register your car on MYGMLINK.COM and you can have access to the owners manual of your car in .PDF format. You can put it on your harddrive or print it, if you want.
call around to lock smiths,I have a guy here in PHX. that can make keys with a pair of vise grips and a file in about 5 min.Or you can pull one out and they can make a key by the size of the pins.
