I know that 91 was a tpi and 92 was the lt1, but will a 91 under the hood harness mate up with the 92 harness at the fire wall. I have a 92 and I am replacing the opti engine with a standard distributor motor and wondered what to do about the distributor harness.
I have a modified sbc and it happens to be an older block. There is no way to use the opti and I was hoping that I could use the 91 under the hood harness with a 91 ecu and it would fit the 92 interior harness at the firewall.
Gm carries over a lot of stuff from the previous year and I am hoping that since the engine just changed in 92 they were lazy enough to use the same in car harness. If not I will have to do some crazy wiring, but I am stuborn and will find some way to make it work. I am using the Lt1 intake manifold and have already begun to adjust it to work on the older block. The only thing left to do to the manifold is cut the hole for the distributor and polish it. I have an older 86 harness and computer that is going to be extremely different and difficult. Especially since it appears as though ever single wire on the car gets routed back into thte ecm. It is to bad that 91 & 92 are not maf, I have a solid roller motor with some other stuff and I heard that those maf systems are more forgiving. I even saw, here on the forum, that some one switched over from maf to speed density and got more out of the maf system.
I have a LT1 I was thinking about putting in my 77 Camaro Rally Sport. If I do I will use the old style dist.A LT1 harness cost $600,A tpi harness cost about $300.But in a Vette I would upgrade.
