Not to hijack this thread..., but I've got CD problems in my '95 (rejects/ejects CDs), and I'm wondering if it's really worth swapping out the head unit for an aftermarket piece and everything else to go with it.
Or is it better to have some like Dr. Don's fix my the cd player, and maybe just upgrade the speakers... (it's a non-bose unit)

Any opinions on this?
Thx.
I think it depends on how much you want to spend.. I personnally like the Bose stock radio. It will only cost you about $150.00 to get it fixed by Dr. Don, and it should be better than when it was new when he is done with it. I'm sure it will cost you about 3 to 4 times that to replace it with something else.
I agree!!! Just got my radio back from the Dr. (Sent it Monday, got it back Friday) It's perfect. I would not consider getting it repaired anywhere else....
I just got mine back from Dr. Don's as well. These folks are awesome. I had sent it to some folks near Tampa two weeks later it still wasn't done, finally got it back from them (major big hassle). Call Dr. Don Thursday morning, FedEx'd it on Thursday afternoon. He got it the next morning Friday, refurbed it and replaced the CD mechanism with the new CDR mechanism, and had it back on FedEx for a Saturday am delivery that afternoon. Now he says 24-48hr turnaround, but he did about a 4 hour turnaround for me. I was so impressed.
And it plays just awesome now. I ever pickup radio stations that were marginal very clear now.
When I got the Vette the CD didn't work. It would suck in CDs play a high pitch squeal and you had to turn it off hold the eject button and turn it back on to get it out. So this is also the first time I ever got to hear it. I luv my Delco/Bose system. I've even made a couple CDs using my iTunes and they play phenominal in there.
Oh its $160. to refurb, and an additional $200. for the upgrade CDR mechanism which has instant recovery from skips. Well worth it. Plus excellent work and customer service.
When I had mine done last month, that was an item of discussion. I must preface this by saying my CD didn't work when I bought it so I don't know about skipping from the original CD mechanism. However, Don explained to me that the upgrade CDR mechanism has a much better laser and resampling so if it does skip it recovers instantly. So I elected for the extra $200. CDR mechanism.
So far I've had it playing about 3 weeks now and have not experienced one skip. And, although thankfully it looks like one of our subdivision main roads is about to be re-paved, that road I take to work every day and it can be nasty in its current shape and it doesn't skip on that road.
