Removing Emblems
I've got a '90 C4 with a fifteen year old original paint job. The hood and gas cap emblems are quite faded. I would like to know what is the best way to remove those emblems, as I plan to replace them with new ones. Also, would I get quality if I ordered those emblems from that certain mail order Corvette vendor in Titusville, FL with the interesting shipping cost structure?
If you look in C4 Tech Tips, I'm pretty sure you'll find the info you want. It involves elbow grease, goo-gone, elbow grease, guitar string or piano wire, elbow grease, a nut driver and, oh yeah, elbow grease.
All the suppliers have interesting shipping formulas, I'm finding.
Try ebay for your emblems. You'd be surprised.
With my corvette club discount I was able to
purchase both emblems cheaper at the chev
dealer than at any of the corvette parts supply
houses. check it out.
I took my front emblem off using fishing line. It did take a little bit of work, but I got it off with out hurting the paint. Try GM before you go to specialty shops.
I used lots of isopropanol and SS dental tools (I use 'em for modelbuilding) It still too time and patience, but it was well worth the effort. I avoided the music wire, but I bet the dental floss idea would work well too!
The new emblems will really make the car look great!
I used a hair dryer on low to soften it up a bit, then got it with a credit card edge, being ultra careful. It left some goo behind, but some wd-40 took care of that!!!! Dental floss sounds like a good idea, along with fishing line....

Okay, dental floss, fishing line, Goo Gone, WD-40, alcohol, etc. I've heard most of these mentioned in the past. Sounds good. BTW, I want to isolate the effort, as the car has about eleven coats of Zaino in the past week. Amazing what a little TLC, 3M Foam Pad Polish Glaze, dish soap, and Zaino can do for a fifteen year old paint job on a California car that is Dark Red Metallic. There are stone chips on the hood and stone "pepper" all over the nose, but until I can justify a complete quality paint job, this looks mighty good for the duration.
Did this several months ago. First use a hair dryer or leave the car in the sun until hot. Then with dental floss, cut off the old emblem. When hot it will come off easy. Then use Goo Gone to remove all old adheasive.

Check with your local Chevrolet dealer on his touch up paint man. Our local dealer has a contractor who comes in and touches up new cars shipping dings (bet you didn't know they do that!). A friend told me about that, and I approached the guy. He came to my house and did the bumper on my '96 CE for $75. Best money I ever spend - all the little pepper dings are gone.

That kinda sucks to have to do all that to remove emblems. When I changed mine last year, it took 4 minutes to do both hood and gas door. Just had to undo 2 nuts each and change.

Okay, now I looked closer. It sure looks like those emblems bolt on in addition to any sealer/glue. If that is the case, I can clearly see how the gas door emblem attaches, but it is difficult to get one's eyes or fingers into what appears to be holes inside the base of the hood. Feels like littler nuts than the gas door.
I did mine last weekend and there were no nuts on the nose emblem. Kept on with sticky tape. I used more tape on the new one and then cut short pieces of vac. hose since I don't have any spare nuts (no smart a@@ comments from the peanut gallery)

Yep. Can't guarantee that my emblems were original, but no nuts. If I can find some that will fit, I will put them on, but never had any problem with the dlb. sided tape.
