Default About Ecklers!

Has anyone here bought anything from Ecklers. I'm wondering if i should buy from them. You really cant trust anyone on the internet nowdays, well as far as buying stuff goes. I want to redo all my interior with stock stuff, and Ecklers seems to have all of what i need. Any opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Zach C. [(shadowvette)]

They are not cheap but they do have a great supply of Vette parts and usually deliver quickly. I order stuff from them all the time over the internet and have not had a problem.

They do have one issue. If they are out of stock on a part you wont know it when you order over the net. They even allow you to request fast shipping and pay extra for a part that wont be shipped for a while.

Also, check Mid America, when you need a part. They are usually a little cheaper for the same parts.

Well, you asked for opionions

I've bought a couple items from Eklers, and got what I paid for quickly. Haven't gone after the hot ticket items, so no out of stock issues here.

As far as trusting internet vendors. I've been buying items over the internet for going on ten years and have never had a problem. I have steered clear of some sites because I didn't like the setup, or they didn't have encryption for credit cards. Just look for a well constructed catalog, and don't forget to check for the encryption lock icon before entering any personal data and you should be fine.

Fact is, there are more legitimate stores online than ever before, and its a great way to shop and find exactly what you want.

I follow two doctrines:
1) on the internet the word FREE means anything but.
2) steer clear of sex sites and online casinos. Those are the crooks.

Good Hunting

Interesting statement, Jim.
I say that because recently I was going through some old 1996 CAR & DRIVER magazines, looking for articles on Corvettes, and noticed something: none of the ads had websites.
"Wow," I thought, "only eight years ago and there was no internet retail business going on. How quickly we become accustomed to new technology."
I know its hard to believe, but go back and look at some magazines from 8-10 years ago.
Come to think of it, how many of us even had PC's when the last C4 rolled off the assembly line???????

Sorry to hijack the thread....
Yes, way too many people have had trouble with Eckler's, but I've ordered a few items from them with no problems.

I have had no problems with any of the online catalogs. Ecklers, MidAmerica, Corvette Central or Zip. It is a matter of who has the best price. When I need/want something I go through all my catalogs and find the best price and then order it from one of the above catalogs.

Here are a few more extremely trusted suppliers with excellent service. You might be suprised at price differences on some items between vendors.

Shop before you drop the cash. There are price differences on the web.

I was in Ecklers last Thrusday; should have rented a u-haul but I was short on funds. LOL Great place to window shop.

I've used both Ecklers and Mid America. No problems with either.

I'm also lucky enough to have a "brick & mortar" store in San Jose. His prices are in line, I can talk to a fellow enthusiast, and, if he's got the item, I get the instant gratification .

if you're a more trusting sort... you could always try froogle since you can search all those selling sites in a single search and then have it sorted by price.

Hey EPIC Vette... whats the name of that "brick & morter" store in San Jose?

I work in San Jose. I haven't needed to buy much for my RED '89 coupe, 6-speed.The car only had about 48k miles on it when I bought it 2 months ago. I plan on driving it quite a bit though, and when you drive it, it is going to need parts eventually. I've already put about 3k miles on it since I bought it, so it would be good to know about any corvette suppliers in the area in case I need them in the future.

By the way, nice car. My favorite year and color!!!

Is it manual or auto???

Actually, Larry, I must say that I have not been buying car parts for all that long. But I have been buying computer hardware on the internet since 1993. What can I say... I'm a Geek owned a PC since before they were called PCs, 1978.

Sorry for the misconception.

There are too many venders out there go with just one vender. All of these places get most of the parts they sell from the same place.Look around and ask question from members before you start to buy.I can think of at least 6-10 venders for parts.Get a few issues of the Corvette magazines and look for the vender ads.As far as interior parts go there are only 2 companies making door panels from what I understand and these parts venders get door panels from them. You can also go directly to the company and get what you need.

They are fine, I order both over the phone and drive over and visit them to pick stuff up (45 minutes drive). They are really nice people there. Also, if you find a price cheaper but still wish to use Ecklers they will price match.

I've used Eckler's for C3 parts. No problems, they're a reputable company.

Last year I replaced the carpet and leather in my '85. The carpeting was premolded, and the seat leathers were stock appearance, including the tiny vent holes.I got that off the internet from Corvetteamerica.com. They have just about the same amount of stuff as Eckler's, they're just geographically closer to me that Eckler's is, and the prices were maybe 5-10% less than Eckler's. My employer has a business agreement with Mid America that extends a 10% discount to me, but their prices are about 20% higher that the other suppliers.

As mentioned in a previous reply, ZIP Products is also a good internet company. I purchased an owner's manual from them. All three companies are easy to work with and trust-worthy.

i haven't had a problem with ecklers either, just make sure you get all your items in one shot...if you leave off a small item, they will charge you rediculous shipping + handling on it...$9 to ship a door spring
