I use spacers on my 85 with no problems. there was a thread a while back where an autocross racer even used spacers with no problems. I have sawblades on my car.

You my friend need to visit this website www.afswheels.com or do a search for afs wheels on Ebay where they have some good "Buy It Now" prices. They make a wheel with the correct backspace to install ZR1 style wheels on an 84-87 Corvette with no spacers.. They also have a package which includes the tires and wheels.
It is indeed the back spacing...the bolt pattern is the same...and you can install them (but they will sit inboard and don't look good like that) you would need wheel adapters not for the lug pattern but to get the correct backspace...I have heard many use them with no issues at all....you just have twice as many nuts holding the wheels on...as long as they are tight- I don't see any drawbacks...
84-87 wheels have the same backspace- 88 and up are different...
AFS makes a nice set of wheels....so does O.E. Wheel distributor (also on Ebay)...I just put a set of thin spoke C5's on my 94 from O.E. they are polished and the quality is excellent! Got all 4 for $365 including lugs, stems, centers and locks! Can't beat it!
