Default Wrong size tires

I just discovered the 95 coupe I bought this month has the same size tires on the back as the front (255s all around). To make matters worse, on the passenger side the back rim was on the front. This is easy to fix, but I have to say I'm surprised that there is no effect on handling, at least that I can tell.

I'll remedy the rim situation tonight, but it appears that the previous owner's choice to go with 255s for all four tires must have been because the Sumitomo HTR+ doesn't come in 285, which means I will have to replace all four new tires to fix this problem! Crap! Any clever suggestions?

wheel location has no effect on handling. even if the rim is narrower, the tires are all the same size.

other than getting new tires... and those should be 275s

The sticker on my door says the back tires should be 285s. I can buy Sumitomo HTR+ in a 275, so if you are right it solves my problem.

To the other matter, won't a 255 on a small rim have a larger diameter than a 255 on a wide rim?

ok first you need to nail down that all 4 rims are the same size. if they are then you need to slap the best rubber on them you can afford. if they are in fact all 4 9.5's then you can fit 11" of rubber on them. my 18x9.5's have 275/35/18. they're the same height as the stock tires and width, but a lower profile. now for yours, my stock 17" rears were outfitted with 285/40/17 nice size tire and fit right. that's what i recommend. now for brand, i say kumho mx cause they grip right. but if you want a quiet ride and dont care that much for grip then go with the bfg g force KDWS it's a super ride and extra quiet. hope you get it hashed out. ps, i bet that 225 rubber on a 9.5 rims looks like

there should be 8.5x17 on the front with 255-45-17's and the rear should be 9.5x17 and 285-40-17's on the rear but for the rear you can go with 275's they look and handle just as good but a lot easier to find and cheaper.

I agree. Just buy the Sumitomo HTR+in the 275/40/17 size and slap them on the back. Just make sure that you have the rims in their correct locations. You don't really want to put the 275s on the 17x8.5 rims.

I HAVE 275/40/17 On my front 8.5" wheeels. They are Firehawk SZ50EP and they fit great. The rears are 285/40/17. '93-'96 have 8.5" fronts and 9.5" rear wheels. I believe that if you got the Z07 handling package you got 9.5" on all four with 275/40/17 tires all around. ('91-'92 had the 9.5" with 275/40/17 all around)

Default '95 Tire Size

If you have the FX3 suspension, all the tires are the same size. 275

Ok,
Just had to replace a front wheel a few weeks ago after an suv tried to take me out. At the chev. dealership they told me that my car had 9.5's all around as per the vin number. I am running 275's on all four does this mean I have the FX3 suspension. While on that subject what is the Fx3 suspension?
