harmonic balancer
I had a problem with my car recently and I was
wondering if anyone has seen this problem before.
I had a rubbing noise coming from the front of the
engine. After checking all the pulleys and bearings near
where the noise was coming from everything appeared
to be all right. I was quite puzzled.
To make a long story short I finally noticed a shinny area
on the harmonic balancer. It appears that the outer ring
separated and was rubbing on the timing chain cover.
This was not easy to see with all the accessories on the
front of the engine.
Is this common with the 350ci engine??

It happened on my '86 IROC a few years ago and I too didn't catch it till I was checking timing and couldn't fine the mark. Only then did I notice that the outer ring had slipped back toward the timing cover.
