4+3 problems?
hello all.i recently purchased my first corvette and i'm having a problem with the tranny.i bought an '84 with 66,000 miles on it.it has the 4+3.my problem is no reverse although the clucth and all forword gears work fine when i'm on the gas.reverse seems to want to work when on the level only.any help would be greatly appreciated.

i was afraid of that.the guy i boughht the car from said he had to put new tires on it whe he boughth the car because the back two where completely bald. that tells me thatsomebody had fun.

common problem with the earlier 4+3's was the carrier bearing (located between the 4 speed and the OD unit...in my 84, 46K miles...the carrier bearing would whine like hell until I put into OD...but it would not stay in OD long...it was upwards of $1500 for a refurb OD unit...so I put in a ZF6 out of a 96 LT4...cost me another grand- but I didn't have to worry about it again!
My 84 would keep me out of reverse as well...not sure soft parts are going to fix it...sorry...
